The new QOTSA album is yet to be officially released (August 25th), but some of us have probably already heard the leak. What did you think of it? Let's discuss!

So let me start things off by sharing my own ranking of the songs as of now*:
1. Head Like A Haunted House 2. Fortress 3. Feet Don't Fail Me 4. Un-Reborn Again 5. The Way You Used To Do 6. Villains Of Circumstance -------------------------------------------- ** 7. Hideaway 8. The Evil Has Landed 9. Domesticated Animals
* this list has been edited from time to time
**the songs above the line are songs that I have no issues with

So here's how I'm thinking about this album right now
Bangers: Feet Don't Fail Me The Way You Used To Do The Evil Has Landed
Weird in a very very cool way: Domesticated Animals Head Like a Haunted House
Beautiful songs: Fortress Villains of Circumstance
Meh: Un-reborn Again Hideaway
So the only songs I can't say I like so far are under 'meh'. I don't think they are bad songs, they don't really take away anything from the album but I don't feel like they add much either.
And I gotta say Domesticated Animals has become a favourite along with Fortress after I used headphones to listen to the album. Quite an experience tbh.

I had the same meh-feelng about Un-Reborn Again the first few listens, but then the chorus(or choruses) stopped feeling so misplaced, and that made me able to start embracing the track instead. So where would you rank Villains in QOTSAS discography?

I'm not really qualified to rank their records though because I've listened to the first two only once I think and have never felt compelled to go back to them. LTP and EV have some great tunes but overall are very inconsistent imo.

Btw did you see that acoustic session they did in Germany? Fuck me that was brilliant, especially Kalopsia and Villains of Circumstance which to me was better than the album version

To me this record is their "worst" to date, but with that said I'd still give it something like 7.5/10, which probably just goes to show how much I love the rest of this band's discography.

To each their own obviously BUT I can't help but think you might be underestimating this record a bit tbh. I listened to the first 3 songs of the official release today in my car (it has a pretty decent system) and Domesticated Animals melted my fuckin brain (again!). It sounds so much better than the leak tbh. Really looking forward to listening to the whole thing when I hit the road tomorrow.

We'll see if it changes, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't. I mean, to me ALL of their others albums are at or above 8/10, and It's only logical that they would some day release an album that was still good, but not just THAT good. I'm totally fine with that, and Villains is in no way a letdown.

I'd say second best after Era Vulgaris, but you're not far off

I finally got to see Queens of the Stone Age live at Riot Fest tonight. They were amazing. Quite frankly, they're now in my top 5 of the best bands I've seen live.

Revisiting this album tonight, still sounds fuckin great to me. Also saw them with Foo Fighters back in march, probably best concert I've been to tbh...couldn't walk right for a week though (pause)
