I used to hate Hey Now, but I honestly love it now.
There are some great hypnotic guitar lines, the drums sound massive, the lyrics are great (it's one of the darker songs on WTSMG), and Liam sounds amazing per usual.
If either Liam or Noel came out with Hey Now today that'd be on repeat for just about everyone here. It just gets a tad overshadowed because of the album it's on. Stick it on DOYS, DBTT or HC and it's easily the best song on there.

It's definitely better than anything on HC, it might have a fight on its hands with TIOBI on DBTT but no other track would really be close to it, and it really is a step above every song on DOYS.

Stick it on DOYS, DBTT or HC and it's easily the best song on there. I'd like to play devil's advocate with that statement. It is indeed a really good song. Not a classic, nowhere near the best on that album, but still really good. But I'd argue if that were released today by Liam and Noel, it would be put in the meh category. Expanding on that, take one of the better songs release by Liam, Noel or BDI and stick it on WTSMG, it gets the same love (or maybe even better) than Hey Now. I honestly think anything pre 1998 is judged with more positivity than post 1998 due to the era. Now, most songs pre 1998 deserve what they get cause they were that good. But there are a lot of songs from then that I can't help think if they were released today they would be cast aside due to circumstances. These include songs like Hey Now, The Girl With the Dirty Shirt, I Hope I think I Know, Fade In Out. Even She's Electric, Digsy's Dinner, Bring It On Down and Married With Children. She's Electric, Digsy's Dinner and Married with Children released by NGHFB: "A fun song like Leave My Guitar Alone, but nothing more." She's Electric, Digsy's Dinner and Married with Children released by Liam or Beady Eye: "Another throwaway with shit lyrics." The Girl with the Dirty Shirt and I Hope I Think I Know would get the "the boring plod rocker" treatment and Bring It On Down and Fade In Out would get the "All Liam rockers suck like Meaning of Soul etc..." Yes, some of my examples exaggerate, but I honestly think due to era, old songs get propped up and new songs get shit on, and if they switched eras, they would get similar treatment.

There some absolute gems in the 90's that were overshadowed by the classics. On the other hand, I think a lot of Oasis Mark II, BE and NGHFB tracks are overrated by the fans. A song like Little By Litlle wouldn't even have been a good b-side in the 90's. Same thing with SCYHO. There were some great Oasis songs in 2000's too that are up there (GLIO, Gas Panic, TIOBI, LAMB, etc) but most of the rest is far from that level. Beady Eye released a couple of good songs and NGHFB about 6/7 but that's it. If only Noel was still releasing songs as good as Cast No Shadow or Underneath The Sky today...

At their worst, Oasis in the 90s were merely listenable. There was nothing, in my opinion, that is outright bad and that includes everything off Be Here Now.
I cringe when I see the likes of Hey Now bandied in about with the likes of complete walloper songs like Nature of Reality and A Bell Will Ring. I don't know whether folk are giving Hey Now the biggest insult possible, or whether they just don't hate the Bell/Archer drivel enough.

That last bit is but hyperbolic, no? Nope. It's definitely better than anything on HC, it might have a fight on its hands with TIOBI on DBTT but no other track would really be close to it, and it really is a step above every song on DOYS. Little by Little, Songbird, I'm Outta Time. I agree that it would make for a great modern-day single, but even the "fat Elvis" Oasis albums had their bits of genius (which then ended up highlighting how much generic dreck Noel was letting slip in).

I used to think I hated Hey Now, but after making a playlist that left it off, I really felt its absence. So what I did instead was restore it, but preceded it with Step Out, and leave it as a nice come-down side closer. I also added Acquiesce and The Masterplan to side B, but that's another discussion.

It is definitely the weakest song on the album but I still like it. In fact, over the past couple years, its now one of my favourites off MG.

^^I've always thought it would have made a perfect bside for the Wonderwall single.

THIS is the kind of 90's Oasis song that should have been a b-side. Not...The Masterplan. Noel should have saved a few of the 95-97 b-sides as an emergency fund for when he had a bout of writer's block. Imagine The Masterplan being held back and dropped into SOTSOG.

Proper tune this one is. How people rate something like RWI higher I'll never understand. But then again, opinion/arsehole etc.
