Back in March during an IG chat, Adam played 3 rough mixes of songs attached to their next LP. So we have 4 of their new songs right at this very moment basically. Victim I Don't Wanna Wait Harmonia's Dream

I always enjoy this band, but I'm hoping for a few new sounds on their next project. Not a radical reinvention - something more like what The XX did with I See You, just adding enough new colours and sounds to keep things fresh, to stave off the feeling of "doesn't this one sound like all the other ones?" that's an easy criticism to make of them.

Agreed, A Deeper Understanding is one of my favourite ever records but at this point I can't see how they could top it doing the same thing, need to keep things fresh

Great band but I agree that a lot of their songs have a similar vibe which doesn't make for the most fulfilling album listening experience. I love the songs individually but as an album, you need variation.
And I think many albums from bands today lack that variation. Maybe being spoilt by listening to Beatles records when growing up, you demand each and every song has it's own distinct character but too many acts just don't have versatility to their songwriting.
Case in point, that band Cigarettes After Sex, you hear one song of theirs and it really catches your ear. And you seek them out... and find out every single fucking song is identical to the one previously. War On Drugs aren't nearly like that, but their high points often seem to be from the same emotional and sonic rulebook.
This is one point where industry artists score over bands who retain all creative aspects for themselves. There's probably more variation in tunes for someone like Dua Lipa's new album than say an indie/alternative rock act.

A surprise song last night. Dropped the first song from their first album. Keep it fresh I suppose. The wait for more new material continues.........
