Ive kinda changed feelings on Noel and Liam. I used to take Noel's side and think Liam was way to full of himself. Now I see Liam as the one trying hard to please his fans. Kinda humble for a Gallagher with a change in attitude. Noel on the other hand seems obsessed with hanging w celebrity friends and being a U2 groupie.. He seems so far removed and kinda content where Liam seems more done to earth and determined... I still support Noel but anyone else feel the same? Liam was the main cause of the breakup but Noel is the reason they cant reform.

I think both have faults in this, it´s not 100% fault to any side. If it was, even Liam would have apologized by now(because he did back in 2000 when he questioned if one of Noel´s son was actually his), he almost got emotional during an interview about this when the interviewer questioned him about Noel. You could tell in his reaction that he regrets stuff, but like i said, i don´t think the fault is only in him.
But at the end of the day, only them two know what happened. We only know a guitar fight ended the band, but it wasn´t because of that the band ended, it was stuff building and building and culminated in that.

In not of the opinion that liam was the reason for the break up. I think Liam was in fact correct in that Noel really wanted to go solo for a long time but wasnt confident in his abilities to be a front man.
From reading Paulo Hewitts book I think this stems back to even before the BHN tour. I got the impression that liam really wanted Noel's approval and encouragement and a lot of his behaviour resulted from the frustration of never getting it unconditionally. Noel on the other hand seemed to view reluctantly putting up with liam as the price he had to pay for being successful. As he became more comfortable singing and being centre stage over the years it was only a matter of time before he took the inevitable step. The fight in Paris was just an excuse to Noel. It gave him a chance to walk away and blame liam, thereby largely avoiding the backlash from oasis fans that he must have feared if he was viewed as the one who killed the band. As much as noel tries to pretend he doesn't care about such things, it's obvious he does.
All simply my own views, however if I may go further I would say that I do think that although he loves liam as a brother I think he has never liked him much and I think the reason may go back to his violent upbringing. It's been well documented that Noel and Paul suffered badly from their dad's violence but Liam was never touched because there mum left when he was younger. Now I'm not claiming I'm an expert on such matters but I often wonder if deep down there isn't a part of Noel's character that RESENTS the fact that their mum broke up the family to protect liam but did nothing when he was suffering. I'm not saying noel would think this consiously but maybe he does and also suffers guilt because of it.
One things for sure the relationship between them is far more complex and deep seated than the history of oasis.

This clip in supersonic, really changed my opinion on the matter. When noel is saying all this good stuff about Liam and then says, " liam would've wanted my songwriting".... I thought that was such a condescending statement. I personally; never got that vibe off of Liam.
I've also been watching old interviews, it's so obvious that Liam looked at Noel as more than a brother but never got anything in return. This was said in an interview... "In the Gallaghers' case, it was 9-year-old Liam and two teenagers, Noel and Paul, who never adopted a paternal role toward their youngest sibling."
It's such a complicated matter and I could write so much more but I do think that my opinion of Noel has changed in regards to oasis and Liam. I have definitely become more a fan of Liam than Noel. I think it has something to do with always cheering on the underdog, not that he isn't great or anything, I just find myself really rooting for him.

I like both of them but I'd say I idolise Noel as a musician and guitarist and Liam as a person.
From what I've read, Noel has always been selfish c*nt while Liam would never betray the people who are loyal to him. Liam seems to be the kind of guy who you want in your side.
For example, McCarroll said in his book that when they were teenagers and hanged out in the park, Liam would always go talk to the more quiet and reserved kids too. He didn't want to leave anyone outside. That's why I hate when media says he's the selfish c*unt.

Oasis was falling apart for a long long time. If you remember that Noel tour diary, Oasis had to make many tour "changes" and the band was a "rudderless ship" at one point. I was always in the belief that Noel should have released a couple little solo albums between 2000 and 2009. 2003 would have bene a perfect time for Noel. Sorta like what Graham Coxon was doing while in blur. I think it would have been healthy for the band for Noel to flush out material not always having to be tailor made for Liam or the Oasis sound.

I would argue that Noel's desire to be a "front man" ceremoniously began when he auditioned as the lead singer for the Inspiral Carpets-- and this was in the late eighties, I believe. I do agree with you in that, as his singing abilities improved, the more he believed that this could be a reality, ultimately culminating in the plum incident in Paris. Cheers.

Yeah I wouldn't disagree with you on that. I only reference that book because it was were I first noticed the dynamic between them when I read it years ago. That by no means says that it wasn't going on long before that tour. You make a good point about him auditioning for the inspirals. Noel alway said he was a reluctant lead guitarist and only did it because no one else could. If his ambition had always been to be the main man out front singing but didn't find it natural, then there would have been resentment from the start about Liam's success in that role. I certainly think that Oasis without liam would have never have had the success they did because a lot of Noel's music is melancholy and reflective and much of there appeal was Liam singing these songs in such a way that they sounded euphoric and the contradiction this presented the listener. And I think noel appreciated this hence why he tolerated liam for so long. In fact I would go so far to say that if noel could have sang like liam then oasis would have never existed because noel would have been a solo artist from the start. Whereas liam thrived in a band environment I think noel merely tolerated it as a means to get his songs heard.

I honestly don't care about it anymore and haven't for a long time. They're brothers, some are best friends, some aren't. I don't think what they are doing now is comparable and its so boring to see the constant comparisons. They are so far apart its no longer an issue to me.
I'm interested in what Liam's doing, his is the voice for me. At the same time I hope Noel releases something in the autumn his fans love and continues putting on a good show for them.

Well I know I'm talking about it in this thread because that was the subject being discussed but I actually agree with you in that I hope they are both happy and successful. I am very interested in human psychology and personality development so I find the relationship between noel and liam interesting but no more than any other pair of siblings I know about. I am by no means obsessed by them.

Liam has said that the olive branch was offered to Noel many times, it's sad if Noel can't accept it, whatever the reasons are

The entire band siding with Liam and becoming BE speaks volumes.

Noel has been very happy with the way things have gone regarding the opinion of him in the media comapred to Liam.
Yet he knows so many around the band (even their other brother) have sided with Liams point of view.
This year is the first year ive seen public opinion turn and so is the fanbase.
It used to be constantly Noel the talented and great one and Liam the nobhead when talking about Oasis with people but ive seen that change considerably now and rightly so.

For me, his was the highlight of the interview. The entire interview was great but that had me 😢. True statement - start from ground zero and (possibly) work towards the music again.

He's happy, he's successful, he's very present and aware. he's honest and humble... all things that wasn't always in the public eye

Could not agree more. They need to fix their relationship as brothers before going on to music because for me there´s no point in them doing it only for the money and pretend they are alright on stage. I truly think they will fix their relationship eventually, i´m just not sure if they will make music together again. One thing does not have to cause necessarily the other.
