Linkin' Park was the soundtrack to my high school years. Incredibly sad. RIP.

Never particularly been a fan of Linkin Park but it's always so sad to see someone take their own life. R.I.P.

I've probably heard only one or two songs by them, but really awful news regardless. R.I.P.

Shocking news.
I stopped following Linkin Park roughly a decade ago, but their early stuff has been the soundtrack to a couple of my teenager years. Great times! Everyone loved stuff like In The End or Numb, and the Meteora album was such a huge hit.

Chester was very close with Chris Cornell, who himself committed suicide by hanging in May. Today would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday. Never listened beyond the singles but they helped some friends with the teenage angst. Fuck me listening to Crawling, in the end or numb Will be quite something else after this.

Apparently he had been considering it ever since he was sexually assaulted. People these days laugh at men, will you please STOP?

I found my wife's response to this news last night interesting... Keeping in mind that she is a high school teacher and deals with these issues daily.
"Sigh. It's hard to convince teenagers that suicide isn't the answer when people they admire do it, and then get universal praise for their life's work afterwards."
I agree that much more needs to be done about the stigma of mental health.
Words fail... it's simply sad.

No my cup of tea at all but obviously loved by a lot of people, a real shame. RIP Chester.

Not my music at all, but my cousin (used) love them. My thoughts are with his family, friends and the band members. Be strong.
Too young to die. RIP Chester.

Many are prescribed without knowing the long term effects of these drugs.

Another tragic story of a talented singer gone too soon. Not a fan, but as others have said, they had a hardcore support who saw Chester as a kindred spirit. Mental illness such as severe depression and suicide cannot be merely trivialised into 'selfishness'. This is why the stigma exists because it is so difficult and almost incomprehensible to understand, so we throw out the easiest cliche to paper over the cracks rather than confronting the issue. It is something that people HAVE to understand, and something that everyone in all walks of like should have knowledge of. Severe depression is something that takes over your mind and warps it to the point where reality - the world that your loved ones live in - is another dimension practically whereby you yourself are isolated in a suffocating pitch black vacuum where there's no way out. Like any other disease that kills, it is difficult to control. With a bit more empathy and an actual pursuit of in depth knowledge of mental illness, then it might be that bit easier for those in desperate need to receive help.

If not for yourself then for your kids man. I am not ignoring mental health issues in anyway. It is very sad what's happened.

Yes, imagine being so mentally ill that even the love you have for your six kids isn't enough for you to be able to see the light in your life and push through to continue living for them. That's what depression is. Of course it's irrational, that's what makes it a mental illness and so hard for people to understand.
