I just wanted to point out...it's not that I think it's a bad album, it's just that I can't play through it totally anymore. I skip Shakermaker, Columbia, Cigarettes & Alcohol as well as losing interest in Up In The Sky and Rock N Roll Star at times. Whereas almost every other Oasis album I enjoy listening to it fully (bar DBTT and DOYS)

I personally dont get the opinion that DM is one of the greatest albums / Debuts of all time. In my opinion Rock n Roll Star / Live Forever / Supersonic / Slide Away are four of the greatest songs of the 90s Bring it in Down, Cigarettes & Alcohol & Digsy are pretty damn great. But Shakermaker, Up in the Sky, Columbia and Married with Children are and always have been just "Meh" to me. Its for this reason I have never understood the unanimous praise. Dont get me wrong, I Think the album is Great, and I love the fact that its Dirty Sounding / Punkish / Full of Energy. Unlike any other Oasis album. Now for me... From the Release of the B-Sides on Cigarettes & Alcohol, Through Whatever and Whats the Story, All the way through to the end of Come on feel the Noize... Peaking at Knebworth and that first listen of DYKWIM on Top of the Pops. THAT is the greatest period of any musical Era ive experienced in my life. And it humbly and respectfully towers over Definitley Maybe. Peace. Whoa there, son. Check yer ears. Columbia is beyond mega. It just chugs along telling the story of being intoxcated on ecstasy. And Married With Children is the perfect sweet ending to the whirlwind of tunes that came before it. DM is almost a concept album. It's brilliant. Lads out on the town proper having it. Sir, My Ears are fine. My Opinion is sound. DM is a fantastic Album. No Question. But Its not Pefrect in my eyes.

I think the songs on it are awesome. But Im not fussy on the way ot sounds. C&A in particular sounds utter shit.
If they re-recorded the album in 1997 it would be the greatest thing ever because the songs are great.

It is kinda weird yeah.
Not sure what's not to like.
I mean Supersonic, Slide Away, Rock n Roll Star, Live Forever and Cigarettes and Alcohol all on one album.
5 classic songs in recent British music history, 5 songs that are still regularly played on the radio today and will still be in 20 years time.
Then you've got Bring It On Down and Columbia which are absolute anthems in their own right.
Shakermaker has it's haters sure, but no one can deny it's not a great listen and that it doesn't have more positives than negatives.
Then as far as album fillers go... Up In The Sky, Digsys Dinner and Married With Children? Fuckin hell not bad!
But what obviously makes the album so lauded is that it has FIVE bonafide classic songs in anyone's book on it.

I guess, it's as I said, it's the production that I don't like. It's as I said before, everything sounds too raw and almost like demos most of the time to me. Cigarettes & Alcohol is awful for a start production wise

Unless the production is noticeably bad on a song, I never notice anything.
C + A seems OK to me.
All the album does tbh.

id rather great songs with some production issues, than mediocre songs produced flawlessly. plus, the raw sound is part of its greatness... any album that has noel writing only half the songs is barely oasis.

The reason it's so lauded is because Noel repeatedly told everyone for about 20 years that it was amazing. It has their best song on it in Supersonic but I find it a bit boring to sit down and listen to in full. Noel's songwriting improved massively for the second album.

Even for the internet this is pretty shocking.

the raw sound is part of its greatness... This^ The record is produced that way on purpose because that's the way they sounded live at the time, big and as loud as f#ck. I agree it could do with a remix but so do all the albums IMO. Oasis never really had a brilliantly produced album, all brickwalled and destortion for the most part, apart from Giants and even that has it's issues sonically.

being die-hard Beady Eye fan is more strange than to dislike Definitely Maybe

Cigs & Alcohol is the most overrated tune in the Oasis catalogue.

Thanks.

I kinda know what u mean when u started this thread. In Definitely Maybe Liam sounds really different from Morning Glory and it's like little different sounding Oasis also it's early 90's and sounding like it also. But if we think about the songs and quality my god what a album! and it's also depute album so it's like insane.
