Liverpool are being linked with Leeds United's Alan Smith.
The Mirror claim that the Yorkshire club could sell the wayward Smith as they look to clear growing debts, and Gerard Houllier would be hot favourite to land him.
Manchester United and Newcastle are also keeping a close eye on developments.

i think aston villa have a good chance. cos it was o'leary that brought him into the first team at leeds. as a villa fan i would love to see him play for us. hes a class player. and villa have some money to spend in january!

I dont think liverpool will get him because i dont think houlier will buy anyone in january and it looks as though thats when smiths gonna go

i wouldnt mind smith for liverpool, but he cheats too much! lol, and we got enough midfielders neway!

he's a striker and we need them, yeh he does cheat at times but u get 101% effort from him every match.
