I think collectively (not necessarily individually) we are hypocritical because we want Liam to sell well and be popular (even though we say all we care about is a good album). We will kill Liam and Noel for being luddites stuck in their ways but we would cringe if they were part of some collaboration with some one like a Calvin Harris, a Avicii, or sang a chorus as part of a rap track.
I know Liam doesn't have a chance to be a huge star as a solo artist, but I would have not problem with him trying by "lowering" himself to that. Although if he loves music and wants to try something different, I would have no problem with it even if I didn't like the artist.
For example, in the US Macklemore's Downtown was a big hit and they had Eric Nally who is relatively unknown sing the chorus with his distinctive voice. At the time it really raised his profile but I don't think he really released anything to take advantage of it. Imagine Downtown came out now and Liam sang the chorus to that even though it is as unLiamm-ish a song there is, if it sounded good, people here in the US would be like 'oh wow, that's the guy from Oasis'.... then there is some buzz around him. Liam doesn't have a shot here in the US but I almost think any shot would require something like this to get some interest (as long as the song can help Liam's voice sound great on the song).
In fact, I think 'selling out' and singing on 'popular genres' is less unappealling compared to being just stuck in the same way.

Depends...
Kendrick Lamar? Yes, please!
Macklemore? No. Please God, no.

Yeah it depends on who the pop star is in all honesty.

Personally I've got my fingers crossed for a collaboration with Ellie Goulding.
It's what music needs right now I think.

I don't think this is a pink floyd reference but if it is then you've got the words the wrong way round.

If it's a good song, why not?

I don't know how it would be received by the core fan base, but I think it would be interesting to hear him sing on something by Daft Punk or Kanye West with their style of production.

I wouldn't say a pop star, but a popular rock band like Kasabian or The Killers, maybe? I think that if he teamed up with a pop star that is topping the charts now, he wouldn't be Liam Gallagher anymore.
Like, he's slamming Noel for teaming up with Damon Albarn -- I know Humanz is far from being Gorillaz's best album, but you can't deny that Damon is a great musician and that Gorillaz is popular in the US. Then Liam comes up collaborating with a pop star? His haters would rejoice.

I'd be up for it. Collaborations can bring out the best in an artist because there may be less pressure on them because they're not putting their name to it in the same way that they do when they release one of their own albums, which may bring out a more experimental side to them. I'm still amazed at how good U2's little collab with Kendrick Lamar turned out so good when Bono and co. have been putting out utter garbage for over a decade. Same goes for Noel too, look at how good Setting Sun turned out! Perhaps a similar collaboration may be able to reveal a side of Liam that we haven't seen before.

D'you reckon Jamie XX would be a good producer / collaborator for Liam?
On the one hand, he typically does more sensual and intimate tracks than Liam would want, but on the other he is probably the best producer in the world right now (In Colour and I See You are both essentially perfect) and he does well with the minimalist type of instrumentation I think Liam should aim for. Maybe for some tracks similar to Back After the Break or Soul Love?

Most of the stuff on Radio 1/Kiss fm etc all that shit tends to feature people who are incredible singers but have the most boring, robotic voices imaginable. That's basically the opposite of Liam's approach.
I'd love to see him collaborate with some real musicians. I don't want him guesting on some shitty clicktrack/autotune sonic abortion

Yeah it depends on who the pop star is in all honesty. Yeah exactly Kendrick? Why not really Or Disclosure, or Jamie XX, even Coldplay, although it'll never happen

If it's because Liam's into it then he should go for it. If it's solely for promotion then he shouldn't.

He going to play the tambourine? Because he certainly won't be singing on a pop track.
