I searched around and didn't find a previous thread regarding this. I like his acoustic version of Live Forever, but seems there're only a handful of times he played this song with NGHFB, and some of them are the crowd doing all the singing. Just curious why? I was told that he said "I can't sing this song without Liam", but couldn't find the original source to confirm. Doesn't quite make sense cuz among all the Noel-sang version of Oasis hits, I think LF is actually the one that's most suitable for Noel to carry an acoustic version. I really hope he could do more Live Forever and less Wonderwall, Supersonic, Champagne Supernova. Not quite a fan of his Ryan Adams Cover-Cover Wonderwall, Supersonic is interestingly odd, and Champagne Supernova is a disaster. Speaking of Noel's Oasis song selection nowadays, It's a shame that although Noel's improved a lot in singing techniques, he doesn't deliver those throw-himself-in vocal as in his younger age any more. It feels as he thinks TOO MUCH, trying too hard to make a pleasing sound instead of just getting immersed in singing. Sometimes it annoys me because it's like changing the song just for the sake of making it different from the original version. I don't buy into the "he wrote the song he can do whatever he wants" argument. It's the Noel in 90s who wrote it. I've never seen a songwriter so, insincere may be a too strong word, but all those little tricks/tempo changes/voice softening here and there does my head in. Considering he's doing these altered versions instead of playing Live Forever - well it's almost a crime.

Because that'd be another song to rehearse wouldn't it?
Its a disgrace that the following songs aren't routinely played by Noel:-
Live Forever Slide Away Some Might Say Cast No Shadow Don't Go Away

I really hope he drops Talk Tonight, Half the World Away, Sad Song, Spaceman and Wonderwall (and Don't Look Back in Anger) on his next tour.
Would love to see: Going Nowhere She's Electric Cast No Shadow Take Me Away One Way Road Shout It Out Loud
I know he won't drop Don't Look Back in Anger, and he will probably keep playing Wonderwall, but he really should drop Sad Song and Spaceman.

Sounds shit when he sings it anyway. Same with all Oasis songs.

He plays Wonderwall off and on, mostly when he's in America. I think on his first tour he played it half the time and not much more than that on his second.
I think he'll most likely add live forever this time around. There were a few crowds that sung it while he strummed along last tour. I think that might have put the idea in his head to do it live.

For me Live Forever is all about the guitar solo and that has to be played by Noel. He can't really do it electric without Liam IMO, so the acoustic version isn't really worth doing. I think it's best left with Oasis and Liam. I think Champagne Supernova could work like the Pretty Reckless version with Gem on guitar but it sounds slightly odd the way he did it last tour with the different melody and solo. I really didn't like it.

I agree with those 3. I like it when he sings Cast No Shadow or Whatever.

Given his huge back catalogue full of classics it is criminal that Noel rigidly sticks to the same setlist.
His icons, who charge similar ticket prices, have much longer and varied sets.
The fecking idle Manc shyster.

I desperately need a radical set list shake up for the next tour. I'm so bored of the same oasis songs.
If the upcoming tour is as boring as the tour for CY then I may go off Noel as live performer forever.

He said once he'd been playing around with Lets All Make Believe before one of his tours. Still waiting for him to play that. Ive always hated the way he Capo'd the fuck out of most of his oasis songs and played them differently. I reckon its just laziness, he'd rather play the most easiest chords.
Morning Glory DYKWIM Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders Slide Away(the REAL version) AATW
Would love to hear all of these. Y'know what would be a great idea to liven up his set? Play champagne supernova the way he used to play it in the late 90's, 10 minutes long with amazing guitar solo at the end. I swear he would be praised a hell of a lot more if he did that.

Thing is, Oasis split up. People are going to see Noel Gallagher, and the last thing Noel is going to do is be Oasis without the singer - anything too reminiscent of 90s glory days Oasis and the comparison would be terribly obvious. Noel's not getting any younger either. I like Noel's live style, the mix of acoustic to electric is fine with me - he just needs to mix up the setlist for the next tour, which he will no doubt do. He changed quite a bit between the first two tours, he just kept it mostly the same within those tours. Of course, the more material Noel has to choose from, the more ways to disappoint people...I bet you couldn't even get a fraction of the people on this forum to agree on a setlist!

He also used to do acoustic sets with oasis though. dont see the difference. Him playing a fuck off guitar solo hardly has any relation to oasis anyway, Its noel gallagher. He WAS a lead guitarist. Now he's a frontman. Why not combine the two? mix it up a bit. He's capable of doing it aswell, used to smash DLBIA back in the day doing vocals and lead guitar.

I think All Around the World would be good with him on vocal too, gives a different feeling. And Up in the Sky. It's sad because he'd always say LF is his best song while Wonderwall's hardly the favorite tune for either of the Gallaghers. Yet Noel chose it for its popularity I guess. It's these choices that makes him more like a calculated businessman, rather than a passionate musician. He's already established and has loads of money, can he please forget those fucking things and put real heart in. I'm not saying he's on autopilot mode when touring, but he's sort of stuck in between a RnR star and a commercial performer who does the show and collects a paycheck. Play it safe or follow your heart - guess every artist gotta face the dilemma at some point. The problem of Noel is he still claims "I don't give a fuck" and it's ironic. Yes you do. Stop pretending, you can't have them all.

Champagne Supernova is a disaster. lol. Champagne Supernova in Boston was one of the best moments at all the Oasis/Noel shows I've been to. It was fucking epic.

I'd go as far as to say that Champagne Supernova was the only real moment of magic throughout the entire Chasing Yesterday tour. Listen Up was the only other nice addition. They were the only two 'new' oasis songs on the whole tour I think? Everything else had already been played to death on the first tour.

Talk Tonight, HTWA, and DLBIA can stay, imo, since they're pretty solid staples by now, but the others could certainly go. Cast No Shadow, She's Electric, and One Way Road would be fine replacements but it'd be nicer to see other HFB songs replace Sad Song, Spaceman, and Wonderwall.

Champagne Supernova is a disaster. lol. Champagne Supernova in Boston was one of the best moments at all the Oasis/Noel shows I've been to. It was fucking epic. It's all very subjective in the end. To me the song itself is absolutely epic, but he re-arranged and performed it in a damn awful way. The vocal, the guitar solo, just so much less impressive. It's not like he put a genuine and worthy effort into reinterpreting the song, makes me feel he's just playing with it. It's like seeing a beautiful young girl overdressed - she can still look gorgeous, not because she dressed that way, but only she's beautiful in the first place.
