I saw them playing this song live at Paradiso in 2008 and they've done great. It was the time when Alex Turner's head wasn't overgrown as it is now and Miles Kane had a lot of potential.
Great covers of my favourite band The Coral (and from Liverpool). I was at this gig.
This video is from Berlin, but they played it at Melkweg in 2010 (my second The Coral gig) as well.

John Denver - Mother Natures Son (it's miles better than the original frankly.)

Very funny! But a good point there and that’s why I despise the 2009 stereo remasters. The sound is so jarring listening on earphones with vocals on the left and other instrumentation on the right for example, and it totally sucks the energy from the songs. What was the fucking point in remastering mixes that were never any good anyway (Stereo was a mere afterthought for The Beatles) and out of date? If they wanted the younger generation on board - e.g. the ones who predominantly listen to music through headphones - then why did they not just bin the stereo mixes and remix the entire back catalogue into surround sound like Giles Martin did for the rereleased ‘1’ compilation and last years Sgt Pepper rerelease (all of which sounds glorious through headphones). The mono mixes are excellent, that’s the only great thing about the 09 rereleases, and will do me for just now, but until the entire back catalogue is rereleased and remixed, then we will never hear the full potential of these recordings. And as a hardcore fan that is incredibly frustrating. The 2009 rereleases were an absolute botch job, and fuss over nothing.

In general, I find beatles songs don't lend themselves as well to covers as, say, bob dylan songs, and I usually prefer the originals. Dear Prudence by Souxsie and the Banshies, and Ticket to Ride by Echo and the Bunnymen are pretty great, and if i'm in the right mood With a Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker is swell.
There are, however, two Beatles covers that come to mind that haven't been mentioned here yet, that imho blow the originals out of the water.

Wouldn't say it's my favorite, but these guys are pretty impressive! They started popping up in and around the NY subways. They go by the name Blac Rabbit, and recently released an album. Kind of psychedelic/pop, definitely recommend!
