I don't really pay much attention to mainstream pop music and often when I do hear it, its all that EDM sort of thing. I don't actively hate pop music - I'm a live and let live kind of guy. Most of us tend to stick with our types of music.
What I'm wondering is, have there been any noteworthy or memorable pop songs in your opinion in 2016?

A great song by Minor Victories with great pop melody, written by genius Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), sung by Rachel Gosswell (Slodive/Minor Victories) and James Graham (The Twilight Sad) carlober knows what I'm talking about.

Well I certainly saw the appeal in this hooktastic one. Nice guitar riff. Overplayed to buggery by anyone and everyone but some hits you just have to recognise its appeal.

Over here (in France), that's for sure. I must have heard that tune like about 10 times EVERY day since it came out. Sadly, I see the appeal too. A "catchy" mainstream electro tune that you don't have too much to remember about. I hated that tune first hearing it, and it just grown since. Awful "song". The worst is these parties you accept to go with some mates, where you don't only hear that tune multiple times, but you hear similar tunes OVER AND OVER.

Another one I never got around to doing...
I'm not sure 'Ultralight Beam' should be on the list (as good as it is) but I'd nominate Lady Gaga's 'Perfect Illusion', another well written pop song I think she's under her belt and that Bruno Mars song '24K Magic'. It's well produced, tasteful instrumentally (enjoyably throwback), with some good hooks and a solid vocal performance. That said I will say I think the arrangement is pretty messy and it doesn't reach its full potential. All in all though it gets my approval.
