Shocked by the AM vs. Muse thread, here's the american, classier version of this poll.
Both bands have been brilliant (despite also releasing some duds) but which one do you prefer ?

The White Stripes(or Jack White) tries different stuff than their most famous LP and succeded at it. The Strokes eh... some of it is good but not so much.
If you have to ask me
Álbum: Is this it Full Discography: White Stripes.

I've yet to 'get' The Strokes. Apart from the band's biggest hits 'Last Nite' and 'Reptilia' nothing has yet to really catch my attention. That said 'Oblivious' off their recent EP was decent enough even if it did rip Daft Punk's 'Aerodynamic'. I'll have to look into them again.
On the other hand I found The White Stripes appeal immediately obvious. Great songs, great records.

I'm only familar with the White Stripes first few records. After Elephant I lost touch. Some good material in there for sure, and I hear they're great live. But even though The Strokes dropped considerably after album 3 (which was decent, but nowhere near as good as their first two), they still somehow maintain the lead for me. Their music makes a stronger impact. And as its been said, Is This It has been one of the biggest, most influential albums of my life.

Did Julian Casablancas ever play the marimba or the triangle on a Strokes álbum? Didnt think so 😉 (This is a Joke)

I like the odd song here and there, but neither really get me going.

Good question! I think they are equaly important. I prefer Julian Casablancas' lyrics over Jack White's. I mainly prefer his themes to Jack White's. Withe wrote Seven Nation Army and there could be documentaries about the existence of this song alone.
The Strokes get my symphaty vote.

Prefer Strokes, but also never dug deep into Stripes, only know their hits.

The Stripes were fantastic up to Elephant, everything after that album was always going to be downhill wasn't it really. I did like the Raconteurs though, some of White's solo stuff has been very good.
The Strokes, First two albums are fantastic everything after that is patchy not awful. To be fair They did what they had to do and give Indie music a kick up the ass and they did it. After that they didn't have to release anything to have a place in music history imo.

White Stripes, no question.
Every album they had was sheer quality, and as a band they had a magic live atmosphere.
I like The Strokes but for me they've got nothing on the genius of Jack White.
