Beyonce and her sister had better albums than Bowie or Radiohead? Yeah. That is the hip cool move at the moment. Say Solange is now better than her sister. It's like when people started listing Revolver over Pepper. That was the cool move for awhile and probably still is. In the mid to late 90s the hip thing was to rank Pet Sounds over Pepper. You don't see that anymore. Was just a fad.

What is Rihanna doing in the Top 20 albums and Top 10 songs?
I thought A Seat At The Table was good but album of the year?
Didn't hear Beyonce's Lemonade yet. It really seems to be the most critically acclaimed album this year. Anyone got an opinion on that?

I don't care for their usual edgy hipster picks but Ultralight Beam would be close to number 1 if I'd made a list too.

And people wonder why I would pick Andrew Haug over Pitchfork, Haugy is at least honest with his top 10's.

I'm surprised DIIV found no love by Pitchfork this year on any of their best of lists. I really enjoyed that album. Perhaps the January release was too far out of mind by now.

How about a Top 100 list for reasons why lists are so shite and pointless?

It really seems to be the most critically acclaimed album this year. Anyone got an opinion on that? There are probably well crafted pop songs on Lemonade but how the press put it on this pedestal as the great album of this generation because of its protest stance on gender and race is just pathetic and small minded. I am not sure how Beyonce is seen as a credible figure for the feminist or black movement. She has absolutely nothing to say, is by all accounts really thick which is why she doesn't give interviews and is merely a mindless puppet of the record company to jump on and exploit issues concerning identity politics for profitable gain. This album has nothing to do with making a political stand and everything to do with posturing for media attention and record sales. You cannot possibly be the voice of disillusioned minorities and women when every single iota concerning your career is dictated to by hundreds of producers, hundreds of songwriters and hundreds of businessmen in suits at the record label. The irony of course is she stands in front of neon signs proclaiming 'feminist' yet proves she hasn't neither the independence and thought to carve out her own career on her own accord, with her complicit idleness allowing herself to be dictated to. If this album Lemonade represents anything, it is the sheer dumbing down and trivialisation of serious issues. She is damaging to these movements, primarily because she doesn't seek to solve these issues but merely purports to support progression merely as it does her career good. Where are the MLKs or Wollstonecrafts of this generation? They are nowhere to be seen, and are not given a credible platform by anyone in the media. No wonder there's no progression if we are looking up to dunces like Beyoncé as role models. Her and her equally vile husband have shown themselves up to be morally corrupt bastards anyhow what with the slavery-ridden sweatshops they run in China to produce their clothing line, so how they have the audacity to posture as morally superior beings is beyond me. I'm really not sure how self-proclaimed members of the 'intelligentsia' in the media rave about this album - either they are being taken for a ride, or rather, they themselves are eager to sanctimoniously jump on the bandwagon for the good of themselves without acknowledging that the extreme-capitalist maouevres of Beyonce and her ilk are part of the problem, not the solution. C*nts.

I suppose by also going more 'mainstream' as to the niche website it once was brings in more advertising revenue. Can't ever remember the likes of pop stars ever getting attention on that site years ago, even with Oasis they've been attempting click bait with videos like 'top ten fights between Noel and Liam' etc.

Was just a fad. this. if these lists were compiled again 10-15 years from now they would look completely different. take a look at some 'best of' lists from the 80's and 90's for example. some of the albums that appeared in the top 50 wouldn't even be in the top 100 if those lists were redone today.
