Coldplay.
Don't really care about new material from the rest of the bands/artists on this list, but with Coldplay I've always had that *puts on Fats Domino voice* "Ain't that a shaaaame?" kind of feeling.

Ashcroft, no doubt. He lost the plot after "Keys to the World", and "These People" is unlistenable dross. I don't expect him to give us another "Urban Hymns", but something that matches his first three solo albums would be noice.

Would love to see the Rolling Stones do so but their legacy is somewhat huge anyway so I'll go with Richard Ashcroft.

Bloody HELL MAN. 21st century brats you all be I like the Stones for their hits and old material, but couldn't care less about their newer material. They've had their time. Coldplay however, are still relevant as a contemporary band and have really gone downhill after Viva La Vida, so I would love to see them return to a level like that again. Oh, and I'm not a 21st century brat either.

I would love for the Stone Roses just to come out and release an album - one of their 2016 songs sucked, one was pretty good. They'll never return to the level of their debut, but I'd be ecstatic about something along the lines of Second Coming.
Or maybe after four years of absence those two songs were really all they did, who knows.

The Rolling Stones. They've had flashes each decade, but when you have a band in their 70s releasing an album of blues covers, it just sounds like it might be nearing its end.
Noel. He writes beautiful songs, no doubt. But I want a rock album from him again.

Coldplay. I voted for U2 last time but it seems like they're hitting on something with The Joshua Tree 30 Tour and the new song, The Little Things That Give You Away.
Anywho, it would be great to see Chris Martin and the boys stop fooling around with flavor of the month producers and artists and start looking towards a more alternative rock route. There's plenty of goodness coming out of that neck of the woods that I'm sure they could hit on something. It looks like they've got something good with that one new song they debuted in concert, they just need to keep going with that.

SOE was good but too safe and they should change it up during the next album to get a third new lease on life (AB, ATYCLB being the other two).

Was Richard Ashcroft ever 'on form'? He's always been shit as a solo artist.

Well, three years on and I think a lot of artists I listed here managed the fabled "back to form" record. Everyday Life wasn't Coldplay's best, but it certainly improved on A Head Full of Dreams, and Jay-Z pulled out a masterpiece with 4:44. The XX's last album was also quality, and I enjoyed the last U2 record outside of the singles as well.
You can't always get what you want, though. Ashcroft and The Rolling Stones haven't done much worthwhile in that time.

Coldplay are in my good books again. A good album, I still think it's their best since Viva La Vida, I really do. My criticisms of that album isn't anything stylistic but more to do with a lot of the songs that lack a full band sound, but all songs are good, with nothing even remotely bad. A fuller album would have rivalled VLV in my opinion.
I still think U2 are the band that desperately need to return to form. Songs of Experience is a good album - and the kind of album that Songs of Innocence should have been - but it's still far far too safe. I've started to detest the lung bursting cut and paste chorus of standard U2 songs of the 2000s, and just wish they'd be a bit more introspective again. They can't do rock or euphoria, they suck hard at it. They need to get in touch with their spiritual side again, and that sense of peace and transcendence.
