Why do they exist?
When is something a hidden track?
Few examples:
The Foz - Second Coming
The Cage - Heathen Chemistry
'Til Kingdom Come - X&Y
Chinese Sleeping Giant - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
Do you always split them?

Why do they exist? Chinese Sleeping Giant - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends Isn't it called Chinese Sleep Chant? Now that is fucking good, pure shoegaze. I totally love it so I keep a version of it separated from Yes. |

Most of the time they exist as a bit of a bonus for the listener. Sometimes, they are used to avoid censorship. Or they're simply songs that they forgot to include in the tracklist.

Why do they exist? The Cage - Heathen Chemistry Contractual, noel had to have written a certain percentage of the songs without the cage the album would have breached this. |

One of their best songs, but its bleak subject matter wouldn't fit on what is a light and poppy record (could have been kept back for 12 Memories though).

True, but isn't this the dumbest way possible to fulfill the contract? it seems fine to me, i just don't get why they needed to leave such a large gap between the last track and the hidden track. |

This might be my favorite Travis song of all time and it was brilliant when I saw it live at Radio City Music Hall in May 2000. I saw Fran Healy do this one acoustic in 2010, still worked really well. I knew Blue Flashing Light would make an appearance once I saw this thread title. Good call also on Coldplay's 'Life is for Living'. I really do love The Cage, I think its a terrific hidden track - I just wish there wasn't such a ridiculous wait for it! Worst hidden tracks? Verve's 'Deep Freeze' and that thingy at the end of the Stone Roses 'second Coming'. |
