I thought it would be fun to make a playlist of rock songs like Whatever and Bittersweet Symphony. I've so far added those two, A Day In The Life and DYKWIM? Rethink. Can you suggest more songs I could add?

Never Give It Up by The Real People uses strings in a pretty good way.

"Dressed up like your sister/living like a tart/they don't know what you're doing/babe, it must be art!"
Great song, awful film. Best Bond film there never was... if it were a dystopian Bond film (or a-Ha's Sun Never Shines On TV).

"Libraries give us power..."
Incidentally, the strings on Automatic For The People were arranged by Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. Very understated and brooding too, perfect for this cracking opener.

Nearly the entire discography of ELO, of course. Choice cuts from one of their best albums:

The last one also has a string section in the music video itself.

Just listen to Funeral by Arcade Fire. Practically every song has this rustic-orchestral-indie-anthem feel:

As for the Beach Boys: God Only Knows obviously has strings and Good Vibrations has cello's.
They've got plenty of others. Same goes for The Beatles of course.

Thanks everyone I know there's a lot of songs with strings but I can't really name them before hearing first.
