Nearly 3/4 through the year now, so was just wondering what are the best albums you've heard this year? Bowie, Radiohead and Catfish & The Bottlemen are just two great acts who have released great albums this year, so what would be in your list? I've been spinning Michael Kiwanuka's Love & Hate recently - soul mixed with folk and an Ennio Morricone style orchestration, blending in well with Danger Mouse's typically superb production. It's amazing so check it out. Another one I've listened to all this week is King Creosote's Astronaut Meets Appleman which sounds magical and hypnotic in its understated beauty. This one is second to The Magnetic North's Prospects of Skelmersdale in my favourite from this year. Teenage Fanclub's new one is excellent also, I really enjoyed Travis's one as expected and Underworld's Barbara Barbara We Face A Shining Future is their best since Beaucoup Fish. These are some of my favourite ones from this year - give us a list of yours to check out!

In random order: Minor Victories - Minor VictoriesWhen Slowdive meets Mogwai. It has 3/4 standout tracks ( this one, for example) but the album really works as a whole. Mogwai - AtomicAn electronic-heavy post rock score for a haunting documentary. Hammock - Everything and NothingShoegaze-ish ambient music. Just gorgeous and hypnotic. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped PoolI haven't listened too much to it in the last few months, but it's great. Lush - Blind Spot EPThis is actually an EP. Lush were back after 20 years with four solid tracks... Out of Control and Rosebud are stunning.

At first I really liked Blackstar as well, but I found it bitter to listen to it after his death. I haven't heard it for months now. The song 'Blackstar' sounds like a bad dream to me, but it's a class song at the same time.

Another vote here for 'Love & Hate' by Michael Kiwanuka. White Denim's 'Stiff' is also right up there for me. 'Masterpiece' by Big Thief, Steve Mason's 'Meet The Humans', Night Beats' 'Who Sold My Generation' and Treetop Flyers' âPalominoâ are a few others I've been really enjoying this year too.

DJ Shadow - The Mountain Will Fall Ashes to Oceans, Nobody Speak, Suicide Pact, Bergschrund Nice variety of moods Operators - Blue Wave Title track takes me to a very very happy alone place when the instrumental break kicks in halfway Album has a nice sort of feeling when you find unexpected happiness out of a low mood Primal Scream - Chaosmosis Loved it on release, not as strong on repeated listenings, but still great. (Feeling Like A) Demon Again best tune on the album imo, got me through one of those times when I was <track title> Massive Attack - Ritual Spirit Know it's an EP, but still quality. Videos are great/disturbing as well HĂŚlos - Full Circle Found out about this one only recently, but it's got even better on each listen. Pray and Pale both personal highlights Channel The Spirits by The Comet is Coming is ok, not especially memorable due to its emphasis on production and album atmosphere, but sounds great whilst it's playing. Skilled Mechanics by Tricky similar, but more variety and has a few great tracks (I'm Not Going, Boy, Unreal) that stand up with the best on each of his albums.

Going to listen to a few of these today to try and take my mind off things. Listening to Love & Hate now...it's nice. Doesn't seem all that memorable but it's certainly gorgeously produced and arranged. Not heard all of The Life of Pablo, but I'm not too impressed with what I've heard. I think he really fucked up a god-damn-jaw-on-the-floor-tears-in-your-eyes beat on Wolves. Can't wait to hear the Massive Attack EP.
From what I've heard, A Moon Shaped Pool and Blackstar are my favourites of the year by far. The former is currently engaged in a violent fight to the death with The Suburbs and Nobody Want to Be Here...for my favourite album of the decade. I think Win Butler's Barmy Army will emerge victorious from the (surburban) war though.

It's weird but I don't really listen to too much modern music. Nothing really stands out for me.
