A band put together by Malcolm McLaren around John Lydon, using Steve Jones and Paul Cook's limited band experience in Strand before completing the line up by putting SEX boutique employee Glen Matlock on bass guitar (replacing him later on for being too musically talented amongst other reasons with John 'Sid Vicious' Ritchie)- so not dissimilar in many ways to how a boy band is put together  You are right though an explosive debut but unfortunately that was all they had in the locker.....for me the greatest rock n' roll band title could just as easily be applied to The Clash, The New York Dolls or even some of the more avant garde bands like The Monks from the 1960's, it depends on your defining criteria I suppose.
