I'm not talking about him using old songs, or continuing with his 'safe' but effective song writing.
What I am talking about is songs like Lock All The Doors, and You Know We Can't Go Back.
It's been mentioned a hundred times that those two tracks are Oasis with hints to the Be Here Now era.
But 'hints' is exactly where he's going wrong. To pick on these two songs as examples, they are crying for the Be Here Now brickwall of sound. But instead all we get is a generic song (especially LATD) that is produced way too safely.
The Fame, I Got The Fever, Round Are Way.....Where the fuck is that loud, bombastic, arrogant sound?
I'm a strong believer that Noel intentionally changed after Be Here Now. That album, and the criticism it received has made Noel so timid.

The only difference between the songs you listed from Chasing Yesterday and his Be Here Now and Morning Glory output are that they are better produced. Otherwise it is the same shit. Not playing it safe is recording a spartan record, or embracing his interest in late 80's dance music. Turning it up to 11 and letting the chips fall is Noel Rock. You are living in the wrong decade, and frankly listening to the wrong guy if you are expecting that nowadays.

Not playing safe would be to go on full Stuart Murdoch mode.
