So now we have come to the last thread in the series of could/should for the foreseeable future.... Until Noel releases his third album, that is. *sobs* Touted by fans as the greatest Noel album since BHN, Chasing Yesterday was seen as an improvement over his debut, both songwise and production-wise. They say you can't mess with perfection, but could this album have been better? Let's see right here, right now! 1. Riverman 2. In the Heat of the Moment 3. The Girl with X-Ray Eyes 4. Freaky Teeth 5. The Dying of the Light 6. The Right Stuff 7. While the Song Remains the Same 8. The Mexican 9. Revolution Song 10. Ballad of the Mighty I Looks like theyknowwhatimean's endless ranting has paid off: he's converted one more member to the LATD hate club! Well, actually not exactly.... But my opinion of that song has been decreasing ever since I heard it for the first time for a few reasons. First, the guitars aren't nearly heavy enough. Noel really should've gone BHN on this one to squeeze out every bit of its potential. Second, I absolutely hate how this song plays so much to Oasis nostalgia, so much that it was released as aa single and (if I remember correctly), the fuckin' official announcement even said the song had the energy of Oasis!! How can Noel look so forward with songs like The Right Stuff yet look so backward with this on the same fucking record? LATD has absolutely no place on a Noel solo album. However, despite all this, I still think it's a fairly decent stomper, and definitely gets the job done as a fast-paced rocker. But there's another song that does the job a lot better, and that's Freaky Teeth. One of the most deranged songs written by Noel, both in terms of groove and lyrics, it probably should've been on DOYS, but in any case, I promote it to album status because it was far too good to be a deluxe edition bonus track. You Know We Can't Go Back gets the boot for similar reasons. Again, the production isn't quite there. But it's also very generic, and a bit too teen-poppy for my tastes, and stands out as the album's weakest track. Sure, it's a good penultimate song (side note: I always feel that the penultimate track is very important in determining an album's running order and often overlooked when creating a great finale), and a great "summer single" that never was, but, again, there's another song that does the job better. And that is none other than Revolution Song! It's much more expressive and triumphant, and makes YKWCGB sound like lazy dad rock. Just compare the choruses. "And I'm singing out that revolution song, like nothing else matters" vs "It's alright, you know we can't go back". Surely I don't have to tell you which one is more euphoric and which one is more forced? Making these changes removes two spectacular crossfades from the album, but it's a small price to pay for the benefits of the stronger songs. Now, we've got an album more deserving of the title of "best since BHN". (Though I still prefer HFB ) P.S. The Mexican is still my favorite song from the album. Yeah, that's right. Fuck the haters.

The way it is now.
We can't actually do this yet, since we have no clue which songs were available, really.

It should have been 11 songs with Do The Damage as opener.

The only song that I skip with regularity is 'The Right Stuff', and even this isn't as bad as a lot of post-Oasis LAG.
not saying it should be added, but I love Oh Lord!

Revolution Song would have done the same thing Record Machine did to the first album.

Revolution Song, Freaky Teeth, and Do the Damage should have been on it.
X-Ray Eyes, Right Stuff, and The Mexican can fuck off.
That's yer 3 substitutions, to win the match.

Everything the same.
Imo, it's one of the rare instances where Noel nailed the track listing for an album. As a result, it stacks up there with the best five tracks off of SOTSOG, the DBTT singles, SCYHO, his DOYS songs, and HFB1 as one of his best post-BHN works.

Strong record, not Noel's best though, just alright. without the 3/4 standout songs that usually make his records what they are.
