So, I recently tackled the task of going through Bee Gees discography, starting with Bee Gee's 1st and ending with This Is Where I Came In.
I was under the impression that they were nothing more than a Disco band, excuse my ignorance. I was pleasantly surprised by how eclectic they really are. I've been missing out. Even their disco stuff, which only lasted for about 3 albums, I actually really enjoyed, falsetto and all.
They really are great with melody and decent with lyrics. They knew how to write a hook. So many non-single songs that really deserved to get more focus.
Anyways, what are your thoughts and opinions on the Bee Gees? What are your favorite albums/tracks?

Here's a standout track from their first album. I love those verses, powerful, driven and haunting. The use of strings here really compliment the vocals, which are admittedly a little nasally.

I really like what I've heard of theirs too. I knew the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack as a kid but when Noel mentioned Andy turned him onto the Bee Gees yellow album, I found it at a record shop and gave it a listen. Really interesting 60s pop-rock, harmonies, and of course song titles.
All of the yellow album plus Run to Me, And the Sun Will Shine, Let There Be Love are what I like best.
It's also funny how easily a song like How Deep is Your Love becomes a big singalong when you hear it in public places.

The Bee Gees were amazing, especially their pre-disco stuff, their 60s stuff. While it may come across as a bit of schmalz, it's well constructed, with great melodies and harmonies.
My grandma was a huge fan, so I've heard a lot of it. We played "Don't forget to remember me" at her memorial thingie.

Finally a Bee Gees thread, yes! Now I can share this gem from 1960's that I found on Youtube some months ago. This is an one hour promo clip recorded for German TV after the release of Idea and it looks and sounds just fantastic! I bought 1st, Horizontal and Idea two years ago and immediately fell in love with The Bee Gees. It's just so well produced 1960's pop with lots of beautiful melodies and melancholic undertones in there. I listened to the first three albums repeatedly for about half a year and then moved on to some other artists, but every time I give the Bee Gees a listen I wonder why do I ever listen to anything else. It's so pleasant music! Idea is currently my favourite album of theirs. It's just a good solid album with no real highs or lows. All of it is just good! I'm looking forward to buying the rest of their discography, too. What it comes to the favourite songs I share johnwesleyharding's love for Holiday, but Down to Earth and Lemons never forget are strong contestants, too. |

The Bee Gees have written & recorded many beautiful songs, I didn't expect that many.
I love this one among so many others:
Funny that Noel likes them when he can't stand the Beach Boys, another band of siblings famous for their harmonies.
