In the spirit of Longtime Servant of the Gun, we continue our insatiable appetite to recut albums to correct the glaring flaws on the Gallagher albums post-BHN. And what better album to rearrange than BDI's debut? If it can be improved, that is. Apologies if I've excluded any songs. This album will always be a guilty pleasure of mine...its self-indulgent excesses make it like a poor man's BHN. Here's my tracklist. I've tried to preserve the distribution of Liam, Andy, and Gem songs, but feel free to disregard! 1. Four Letter Word 2. Millionaire 3. The Roller 4. Man of Misery 5. Wind Up Dream 6. Bring the Light 7. In the Bubble with a Bullet 8. World Outside My Room 9. Sons of the Stage 10. Wigwam 11. Three Ring Circus 12. The Beat Goes On 13. The Morning Son

13 is too much, 10 would have been ok, just listened to the record today actually, and it was surprisingly, better than i remembered.
1. Four Letter Word 2. Millionaire 3. The Roller 4. For Anyone 5. Standing on the Edge of the Noise 6. Wigwam 7. Man of Misery 8. World Outside My Room 9. The Beat Goes On (shortened, too many choruses) 10. The Morning Son

There should never have been 13 songs on it.

If there was ever a period in the history of the Gallagher brothers where the songs were absolutely not there, this would be it imo. That's why I think a 10 track album, or just holding off a little longer to do more work on songs, would've worked better:
1. Four Letter Word 2. Millionaire 3. The Roller 4. Bring the Light 5. For Anyone 6. Wigwam 7. In a Bubble With a Bullet 8. Three Ring Circus 9. The Beat Goes On 10. The Morning Son

Going to change the tracklist around a little as well:
1. Four Letter Word (What an opener, perfect way to start the album) 2. Two Of A Kind 3. The Roller 4. Kill For A Dream 5. For Anyone 6. Wigwam 7. Bring The Light 8. In The Bubble With A Bullet 9. The Beat Goes On 10. The Morning Son
13 is way too much, 10 is the perfect amount. Never got into Millionaire and, to be honest, I still can't to this day. Don't think Liam ever properly nailed it live due to the speed of the chorus either (of course, I could be wrong.) Always liked Bring The Light, Kill For A Dream and For Anyone (For Anyone I feel is quite underrated on this forum to be honest.)

I couldn't go past 7.
Eight if I include Sons of the Stage, which is probably the best stuff they did in the DGSS era but unfortunately it's a bloody cover!

Is this poll done? Is it time to jump onto Noel's High Flying Birds?

The Morning Son I certainly have many issues with Beady Eye's debut LP............... - I can never fully endorse any tracklist that includes the songs "Kill For A Dream" or "The Beat Goes On". To me, those two songs represent a lot of wrong in the band and the type of sound they needed. Rock n roll cliche through and though. Andy should be embarrassed. - Ideally a 10 or 11 track album would have made the overall product stronger. - I love "Wigwam" live but to me the studio version never sat right. Sounds too thin at times and tinny. Especially the intro drums. It's so mega live. Should have been recorded that way. - Crazy to say but the fan edit of "Beatles and Stones", the one with the extended drum intro found on the DVD of DGSS is killer. Wish the real song began that way. Hats off to whoever created that. It lives forever on my iPhone as the REAL version. - "Sons of The Stage" might be the greatest thing the band ever did which is kinda sad because that is a cover song. So much swinging energy on that tune. Wish it carried over to other Beady Eye tunes. - I didn't love the overall albums production in 2011. Sounded cheap in spots. In 2016, I can barely listen to it at all outside a few tunes (Four Letter Word, Millionaire, The Roller). It's a very dated. Their second album was the sound I dreamed for them when they first formed. Shame we never got a 3rd album.

I agree, the intro sounds brilliant, should of been the album version. The same with Bring The Light, they should of recorded the album version like they played it during the BE tour, great stuff. I also agree with you about WigWam, it's a real shame they didn't capture the energy the live version had in the studio, it's frustrating as it's a brilliant song but the production really lets it down.

I'm one of the few actually really enjoys DGSS still, the problem it has is it's too long and it should of been cut down so it was a 10 track album. Here's what I think the album should of been:
1. Yellow Tail 2. Four Letter Word 3. Millionaire 4. The Roller 5. Bring The Light 6. World Outside My Room 7. Wigwam 8. In The Bubble With A Bullet 9. Man Of Misery 10. The Morning Son
Japanese Bonus Tracks - The Beat Goes On and Kill For A Dream
I'd of had Evil Eye on there but thought I'd just stick with the songs that were actually released during that era.
That is a really good album in my opinion. One thing I will say though like Lennon said, the production really didn't do the songs justice, if it had Sitek producing it, the album would of reached new heights.

Poll locked! Thanks for voting everyone!
So the definitive DGSS according to the users of L4E is as follows:
1. Four Letter Word 2. Millionaire 3. The Roller 4. In the Bubble with a Bullet 5. Sons of the Stage 6. Bring the Light 7. For Anyone 8. Kill for a Dream 9. World Outside My Room 10. Wigwam 11. Three Ring Circus 12. The Beat Goes On 13. The Morning Son
Of course we weren't voting on positions in the tracklist so feel free to reorder. I must say, this isn't much of an improvement, but that's probably the fault of the source material ha ha.
Next up on the world of could/should: NGHFB!

Meh, some of them songs I wouldn't have anywhere near an actual album but oh well. A ten song album would have been better. Looking forward to the HFB one though, more songs and some on the album I would never have on there either

Listening back to that record after a long time and really, why were we so hard on it ?
It's actually good, in 2017 context, not many records have that quality.

I find it pretty unlistenable as a whole now. I think the big problem is that most of the fast songs are awful, so if you take them out then you end up with a plodding album.
Four Letter Word Bring The Light The Roller Millionaire For Anyone Kill For A Dream Three Ring Circus Wigwam The Beat Goes On The Morning Son
That's not a bad album in terms of the individual songs, but it lacks energy.

DGSS is a poor album that isnt helped by a poor production that makes the worst songs even worse to listen to, sort of like dropping a stink bomb on a dog turd, the album could be helped if only slightly with a more modern production, the album feels really old yet it was only released 6 years ago.
why you would be happy with going for a 60s atmosphere in 2011 is beyond me.
FLW, millionaire and the roller are fine but need to be modernized abit with the 60s vibes removed. bring the light needs the BE treatment the band shouldve picked between kill for a dream, wigwam and morning son, all 3 are fairly similar so arnt needed. beat goes on needs more work for anyone should be a B side three ring circus, beatles and stones and standing on the edge of the noise should be binned off. wind up dream is ok filler. man of misery should be binned two of a kind either needs binning or production overhaul. in a bubble and sons of the stage are fine as they are

Its not the strongest thing but somehow uts very chic and mainstream on here to treat it like the worst thing ever. I am grateful for certsin songs that would have never seen the daylight. And I like to rememver these times in general the big buzz and that I was completely invested into them.

Be careful with what you say... Four Letter Word Millionaire The Roller Beatles And Stones Bring The Light Standing On The Edge Of The Noise (I have a soft spot for this song, no idea why. There is something I really like about it) Wigwam The Beat Goes On The Morning Son With Sons of the Stage, World Outside My Room, In The Bubble With A Bullet and Man Of Misery not bad at all. But hey, Noel didn't wrote them.
