This song has improved so much live since the first HFB gigs. It was a clunky, plodding quasi-pub rocker at first but by the end of the first tour, it was polished and perfect and a setlist highlight.
Just goes to show its worth working at songs that "don't work" live.

When I first listened to Noel's first solo album, I'll admit that I was a bit underwhelmed. The terrible production did the songs no favors. Annoying echoes on EOTR, annoying song in Dream On, annoying MOR generic feel in IIHAG, annoying TIOBI rehash in TDOYAM, and annoying Oasis leftover in Record Machine. I almost wanted to turn my CD player off.
But then, this track came on, and all of a sudden, everything seemed to work perfectly. Everything from the piano groove, the verse melody, to the chorus. Even the "woo-hoos". There was an explosion of energy when What a Life shot over the speakers. I barely even noticed that the drums were so prominent, or that the strings drowned out the guitar solo. And once this track blew me away, the rest of the album quickly followed.
This song demonstrates that, sometimes, even poor production can't kill a good song.

I liked it on first listen and have liked it less with every subsequent listen. Probably haven't heard it for about 2 years.

I really like it, especially live where the piano and the extra wee guitar fills make it even better.
My favourite version is the UNKLE Rework though, the dark bassline is very cool.

Bit of a classic now, ain't it? The piano is thumping live.

Very much so. It had promise, but it didn't deliver.
The guitar twang at 1.07 is immense, though. They should have developed that. But alas, they didn't.
And the "Who-Hoos" are annoying as fuck. Should have been "Walk-On" instead. Ugh.

AKA... What A Life! (UNKLE Rework])and AKA...What A Life (The Amorphus Adrogenus Remix) are brilliant and better than the original.
