Personally, I would say The La's kicks the shit of anything they ever did.
Not in this lifetime or the next. They had one fucking album almost 30 years ago. Pavement delivered the goods on all 5 of their albums plus inspired bands like Blur and Radiohead to........push forward.

Have never heard anything by Pavement, but if they've inspired Blur and Radiohead, they must be good. I'm going to suggest them in the introductary playlist thread!
It's hard to not vote for my favorite band of the decade (Oasis), but are they really the best? What makes a band the best? Is it popularity? Or maybe album sells? Cultural impact?
I think we need to develop some kind of analytics to decide such things. Broaden our scope and try to weed out our biases and personal preferences.

You are in for a treat. Amazing band. They were the 90s version of the Replacements and Dinosaur Jr.
Suggested tracks:
- Summer Babe - In The Mouth A Desert - Here - Cut Your Hair - Gold Soundz - Spit On Stranger
Talking about 90's bands, I've listened to a bit of Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie era, lately. Tonight, Tonight has to be one of the most defining song of the 90's for rock alternative music.

The Pumpkin's were great in the 90's, albeit hit or miss though.

Not sure why the Roses are in the poll. Sure, I love their music, but their magnum opus was released in the previous decade, and they only put out one album in the 90's (Turns into Stone doesn't count!), which had a mixed reception, and made hardly a dent in a world dominated by Britpop.
But this really illustrates how arbitrary a decade is. Who's to say that a decade can't start in, say 1987? It's just as arbitrary to group music moments into decades, as you're gonna get overlap in style at the beginning and end of decades. And, because the Roses has such an influence on 90's British rock, you could call them a "90's band", even though their best work was released in 1989.
Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Collective Soul, Pavement, Pixies, The Offspring, Counting Crows, GnR, Red Hot chili Peppers, Live, Green Day, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, REM, STP, etc, etc, etc.
And let's not forget one of the biggest selling acts of all time.... Hootie & the Blowfish!
This list is mindbogglingly short.

I think we should do "Artists of the Decade". Eminem and Aphex Twin should both be part of their respective decade's conversions.
What's the best Aphex Twin album? I've got his 'Selected Ambient Works' albums and I'm pretty keen to listen to more but I'm not sure where to start.
I'd go for Come to Daddy to start with - although it's technically an EP and the opener is quite abrasive, it represents the multiple sides of Aphex well. There's some nice ambient-techno like SAW85-92 (IZ-US), some purely melodic masterpieces (Flim), and some brilliant displays of his technical skill (Bucephalus Bouncing Ball). If you like that I'd move onto The Richard D. James Album.

Or a 90's version of the Velvet Underground, especially with that jangled guitar twag tone, but as Mark E. Smith would say they're just a fucking The Fall ripoff.
Seriously though. Pavement is probably the correct answer. 5 for 5 on great albums with 2 legit classics, 1 cult favorite, and 2 neat and consistent closing albums. 90's is one of my favorite eras in general, but Pavement and Oasis are probably my top 2 bands of all time.

Syro might be a good choice for your next, it's his most accessible album after the Selected Ambient Works. After that, I'd suggest moving onto Classics, which is his best work imo.
In all honesty, Aphex is more of an EP artist than an album one, so there are a bunch of EP 's you can check out as well. I'd recommend On, Ventolin, and Windowlicker after you get used to his style.

1. Oasis 2. Belle and Sebastian 3. Radiohead 4. Teenage Fanclub 5. Pavement
I didn't include The La's or My Bloody Valentine because they only had one album during the decade, but both are pretty high in my personal favourite lists.
Shoutout also to Portishead, Pulp, Primal Scream, Supergrass, Nirvana, Blur, Mazzy Star, The Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., The Verve, Mercury Rev, Pixies, The Breeders, Swell, Spiritualized, Slowdive, The Boo Radleys, and many others.
Fuck, how good were the 90's ?!

themasterplanet: A Northern Soul by The Verve! My second favourite album by them. I love the atmosphere of it, itβs very dreamy and melancholic and dark. It holds many memories for me and I think thatβs partly responsible for why I love it so much.

AllOrNothing: Up in the Sky sounds like the La's on steroids, especially that Liam Falsetto that I can almost picture Lee Mavers singing with all his big teeth showing

Bring It On Dan: I have so much shit on an old hard drive somewhere but I just cannot find it. Nothing 'out there' but probably 200 gigs or so. I can't remember the name of the site that had all the gigs listed and sources for loads of gigs next to it? I remember RKID 003.
