Am I the only one who finds it quite bland and forgettable? It's well written and melodic, but also generic and safe. I've never really got into Travis though, so maybe I'm just not their "target market"? Seems to be getting quite a good reception here though, which is nice. I heard Fran giving an interview recently and he seemed really nice and down-to-earth, so I hope it's a success. You sure you aren't talking about Ghost Stories?

No. I was quite encouraged by the comments on here, so I gave it a listen this morning. It's dog shit. I like Travis, but the new album does not do anything for me.

I think the title song is one of the poorer songs on the album. I like Magnificent Time, Animals and Strangers On A Train.

Finally, I've listened to it enough to contribute!
So, as many have said - not a bad tune on it. It's classic Travis. However, upon my first listen I thought it was decent, nice, etc but not really great or spectacular. Just solidly average 'good'. Which is okay, most albums aren't extraordinary. The first time I listened to Where You Stand I wasn't that impressed but now it's one of my favourites of theirs. So who knows how that will change. But I say at the moment it fluctuates between a 6 and 7 out of 10, depending on the track. So let's say 6.8/10?
My ranking would be:
What Will Come Radio Song Everything At Once Idlewild Animals Magnificent Time All of the Places Strangers on a Train 3 Miles High Paralyzed
Also noticed most songs are just under 3 minutes each. We'll see how that changes in a week's time.

The thing about Travis (and it's the case with Oasis as well) is that if you don't like their two best albums (The Man Who, The Invisible Band), you're not likely to like anything else they've done because their albums are, for the most part, interchangeable. Travis has slipped into mediocrity on occasion, but the great thing about them is that they've always made honest and upfront records even if they're not that willing to change alter their sound radically. I'm actually a bit surprised that you don't like Travis, given that they were a huge influence on Coldplay, but please tell me that you at least like this one? That's the one Liam got Fran to play over and over again backstage during the Be Here Now tour - he would get the crew in and make Fran play it to them, demanding he 'play it again'. And Bonehead was reduced to tears by he tune! I think the song you mean is 'Luv'. That's the song Liam loved and Bonehead cried whilst listening to.

Bonehead is a bit soft though isn't he - crying at all songs it seems (didn't he cry at Champagne Supernova and Live Forever?!).

But yeah, I get your point. Travis are a difficult band to really love. Travis fans on here will always say, "well, they've never done anything utterly shite and without merit like Oasis have..." But on the other hand, they've never even approached the sorts of peaks Oasis frequented in the 90s (and occasionally stumbled onto in the 00s), so...

Travis has yet to release anything that rivals their two masterpieces, The Man Who and The Invisible Band. Since 2001, they've released some very good albums (12 Memories, Ode to J Smith, Everything at Once) and some so-so albums (Boy with No Name, Where You Stand), but nothing ever touched the feet of their best. It's also interesting to note that their two weakest albums are blatant attempts to rewrite The Man Who, while the others deviate from their traditional sound by Travis standards. A warning to stop chasing yesterday, maybe?

They're a 'safe' band to like - not in a critical sense mind. They're like a nice relaxing Friday night in - it's not going to be the greatest night of your life but you know what, it suits me just fine and I could happily deal with it for the rest of my life. I also give them a slight edge over other bands as they're a rarity in that the members are completely just themselves. Likeable blokes you could have a good pint with - there's no hubris, arrogance or pretension about them, they're simply themselves. A bit like the members from the band Madness. They've never been a 'great game changing' bandbut I don't think they've ever been poor either. I honestly think this recent Travis album beats Noel's solo efforts. Perhaps it doesn't reach the highs of Noel's best solo songs but as ever with Travis, I just feel there's more consistency there.

Travis last night were brilliant. They opened the gig with the album title song which I was't a fan of, but this song came to "alive" on stage. (they played it at soundcheck too). Mixture of new and old songs and Fran's voice was just fantastic. He played 2 songs acoustic in the middle of the audiences and he told us nice stories about some songs. "I wrote this song for my mum. My mum was beaten by my dad. My dad was a f**ing idio, a very agressive man. He was beaten by his dad and his dad was beaten by his dad, it went on and on in generations. My mum sadi to me 'please don't play this song', but I'll do it anyway" - "Re-Offender" "I wrote this song when I became a father" - "My Eyes" Fran sung the part by female singer for "Idlewild" and he did it very well. and we all danced with "Magnificent Time". It was fun. Setlist - Melkweg, Amsterdam, 27th May 2016: 1. Everything At Once 2. Sing 3. Selfish Jean 4. Writing to Reach You 5. As You Are 6. Love Will Come Through 7. Driftwood 8. Animals 9. My Eyes 10. 3 Miles High 11. Re-Offender 12. Where You Stand (Fran acoustic in the middle of the audiences) 13. Moving 14. Idlewild 15. Closer 16. All I Want to Do is Rock Encore: 17. Flowers in the Window (Fran acoustic stting on a chair in the middle of the audiences) 18. Magnificent Time (We all danced like a "4 year old children" 19. Why Does It Always Rain on Me? and at last, but not least. It was pleasure to be at soundcheck and to meet and chat band. Never change Fran, never change Travis.

What a class act they really are, as ever, sounds like a great communal experience - brilliant music, brilliant performances all without any ego.

I've only seen Travis once in concert. They opened for Oasis on the SOTSOG tour in New York City. A lot of reviewers of the gig said they stole the headlines from Oasis that night. Not sure that is true but Travis were pretty darn awesome that night. Good Feeling Writing to Reach You As You Are Driftwood Why Does It Always Rain on Me? Turn The Weight (The Band cover) Slide Show Blue Flashing LightThe highlight for me was "Blue Flashing Light". It was absolutely blinding live.
