Is it only me who feels like being a fan of Oasis is like being a fan of a football team?
Like none of my other friends go on about how good their favourite band is, none of them try to force me to like them
I guess Oasis is just so controversial, and divides people that that need to prove to people how good they are. And how people say they are a "one hit wonder" (wonderwall) or say that their old stuff is only good drives us to this feeling
Like, for me Arsenal are the best football team and Wenger is the best coach. And since many people disagree, you have the desire you prove people how good your team is. To prove your love for your team.
And I guess it's a similar concept with Oasis.
Thoughts?

I kinda know what you mean. It seems like they are so underrated by a lot of people who don't know the rock world inside out, so I'm always eager to turn people on to Oasis. Like you said a lot of people only know them for Wonderwall, but obviously there's so much more. I love putting my iPod on shuffle and some obscure Oasis song comes up and one of my friends says something like....this song is awesome, who is this?? I get pure satisfaction when I tell them it's Oasis ;D

I'm sure most of you have Facebook, and i'm sure if you dont you've heard of it (depends on age of course, basically just my generation)
You know how you can post videos and articles?
Mine is filled with youtube videos of Arsenal and Oasis videos (great live performance, funny interviews etc)
It annoys a few friends. Most ignore it. But some do click and watch lol
But i also post the videos i like so i know where they are so i can watch them again a few more times - kind of like favouriting/bookmarking them...
I guess it comes down to pride, and just wanting to show how proud you are of this band.

Well, don't get me wrong. I do recommend Oasis to my friends, but I don't flaunt them like a diamond ring.
I mean, if they like them they like them, if they don't they don't. I'll tell you on thing, I don't take the "Radiohead is better then Oasis" shit I get from one friend of mine. ;D

As an American I think that because everyone around me thinks Oasis is a joke I don't really bother even mentioning them. Like talking to a brick wall.

yeah, as an "american" i agree with you. but i still try
what bothers me is that EVERYONE who tells me they hate/dont like/dont care for Oasis ALL love: Wonderwall, Dont Look Back In Anger, Live Forever, Champagne Supernova....
I'm like so much for not liking Oasis
It's sad. It really is. They dont "like" Oasis bc they dont KNOW oasis. They like the songs they heard on the radio in the 90s by them. But dont know anything else
Yes, granted, some people truly dont like Oasis, and truly will never like Oasis.
Fair play to them. It's not them i dont have a problem. Everyone has different musical interests and such
It's just that people who love their hits in the 90s never paid attention after their gold height of the mid 90s. If these people actually listened to the likes of Song Bird, Little by Little, Importance of Being Idle, Gas Panic etc they would admit to liking Oasis
it all comes down to ignorance. it's a shame. But it's their lost at the end of the day innit

I agree. Whenever I tell people Oasis are my favorite band they say, "Aren't they those brothers who fight a lot and sang that one song, Wonderbread or something like that?"
By the way live4ever, why do you put "American" in quotes?

But it's their lost at the end of the day innit They never paid attention cause they didnt know the band existed no more cause it vanished from the general public eye. I dont think that songs like little by little, gas panic or importance of being adle were the same kind of hit material (dont get me wrong, they are very good songs) as wonderwall, live forever and dont look back in anger were. Those songs were more suited for general acceptance and mainstream audience in my opinion. These were the songs that people that are not that into following music scene, just listening what comes from radio and so on were easily appealing. Otherwise i think these songs (little by little, importance..) had been hits all around the world like wonderwall and dont look back in anger the same way. These were the songs that made oasis gold and gave them the opportunities they had. I think still today they are the most appealing songs for the mainstream. Their new stuff is more underground. And its not coincidence that wonderwall is one of the played songs by troubadours to this day. Like couple of yours ago my bandmates did know all the 90s hits and liked them, but didnt really know about anything else, and oasis has never had any other hype atleast since 90s other than their songs being played somewhere randomly. I would not have known myself if "dont look back in anger" and "live forever" had not been that appealing and intriguing to me. I remember when dont look back in anger came and i was maybe like 12 years old and i remember liking it instantly and it stuck with me. At that time and some years on I yet wasnt into any albums and didnt understand why people bought albums, cause all the good songs were on the radio . I remember it coming on radio regularly and me recording it on tape along other good songs that came on radio. Because it was on radio i had the opportunity to know about it, and it left a really big impression on me. When i heard this song later I always thought that there must be something more to this band when they write songs like this, with this kind of classic feel to it, and its a band from 90s. Then time just passed by, and they didnt have more hits, so it was kind of forgot, and other bands and songs came. And later i started digging albums too. And listening to beatles and so on. and someway i stumbled upon oasis again, i remember being in a library and finding some of their album, maybe it was morning glory and borrowing it. And then it little by little started snowball from there. Well now like last year Oasis best of came, and obviously some of my playing buddies had bought it or got it for present and they started to dig the collection too. And telling about the good songs that were on there. You have to remember too that my playing buddies are musicians and like classic rock, and also songwriting stuff, and attitude music. During our last band rehearsal the drummer said that he would really like to play in an all oasis cover band - oh and hes a football fan too. its not ignorance, its normal human behaviour. People usually are not digging too deep with things, first you gotta come to them, give them a little taste and then they start following....

I kinda agree with you live4evr...however, I don't need to say to my friends "Look, Oasis are so great, they're one of the greatest bands in the world, so you should listen to them". If they love them, they listen to them and if they don't, they don't need to listen to them. What I'm trying to say is, there's definitely one thing common: Supporting Oasis or any bands you love and/or supporting your football team mean you support them in their good time, but also in a bad time. Keep the faith.

I have an Oasis logo tattooed on my wrist so you bet I am proud Alot of people say what is that? I just say "its my band" and leave it like that, unless they asked, I have fought to many years with defending Oasis against people's ignorant opinions, I have just come to the conclusion that I really don't have to explain myself anymore to people who do not get it , there not worth it. I love Oasis and fuck you if you don't

football is more important than some band always will be, i can understand the obsession people have with their favourite band, its good to have an interest in a band but you can go to far. With Oasis i do not view them as mine but with Liverpool i do, it goes alot deeper

When people tell me they don't like Oasis, it feels like a personal insult.
