Hi
Our lovely mods and I have been getting reports from some members that certain links to third party sites, which are posted on our forum, get rerouted to ads. Also, a mobile phone user today reports having pop-up ads on his mobile after visiting a link on our forum.
To help us filter out these links please report such problems in this thread. I'll take necessary steps to ban these links and will forward it on to ProBoards if the problem persists .
Thanks!

Thanks webm@ster, mimmihopps for posting about this and for any help on the matter. Ta Flatulence Panic for the detailed info you posted as well - I've been experiencing the exact same issue when browsing the forum on my mobile. Got another tenuously related issue on this but didn't know where would be best to post this - when browsing the forum on my laptop or desktop PC there's now an auto-play advert that appears in the bottom right hand corner of each thread, under the "Related Topics & Stories" banner. There's no obvious means of stopping the playback (the clip loops round) and its default volume seems to be fixed at 100%. Any tips on how to avoid this would be much appreciated if possible. (I'm using Safari if that's any help?)

(I'm using Safari if that's any help?) No problem. I just want the issue sorted as it makes browsing via mobile almost impossible. Regarding the auto play advert at the bottom right hand corner of each thread, the only thing I can really suggest is AdBlock Plus which it seems is now available for Safari too: extensions.apple.com/details/?id=org.adblockplus.adblockplussafari-GRYYZR985AAlthough that would mean ALL adverts on this site are blocked and I believe that webm@ster receives some money for the adverts on the site. Maybe if you play around with it you can try and block just that advert but i've never really tried that myself (fyi I browse with Edge on a PC which doesn't have AdBlock yet although apparently it's coming soon).

I have no issue with readers using adblock to browse, especially if it's a forum member. The auto play advert is an ad placed by proboards, as are most of the ads on here. cheers

Thanks for confirming that it it's actually OK to use one.

My computer (yes I still use PC) is repeatedly popping up links to other forum posts under the 'AddThis' extension. you have an arrow on the top right corner to hide it or right click on the ad, Adblock -> block this ad, and move the bar to the right until it disappears

Should've thought to screen cap it for the url but I opened this site in Android Chrome about an hour ago and I got this:
If it means anything, I got the same thing with that "City of Wyandotte user" on iOS Safari years ago and it was also when I was on here.

Hi there, This would have to be happening to more users of the forum so I could report it to proboards. Isolated incidents sometimes point towards problems with the browser or mobile being used. I' ll keep an eye out should any more complaints come in. Cheers

I've noticed this recently as well, but only when browsing the forum on my mobile.
You'll be scrolling through a thread and the browser is suddenly re-directed to a series of pop-up adverts. The one I just saw was promoting "a free iPhone" to "all BT users."
To get away from the ad I had to turn off my phone, as the back button didn't work whilst the ad was on screen. The ad locks you into a loop of pop ups, each of which makes the phone vibrate.

Let me know and I can pass it on to proboards. Hopefully your browser hasn't picked up a virus.... cheers

This issue seems intermittent - hadn't noticed anything for weeks but today I got the same kind of random redirects on this forum (same as I described before). I tried to capture the URL but the pop ups changed several times, before it set the phone on vibrate. I got out of the redirect by rebooting the phone. I did have my phone checked after the last round of redirects but they didn't detect any viruses. Also, this problem seems confined to browsing the site on my mobile. Currently posting using my laptop and haven't encountered it there.

davidjaywe got following response back from proboards, hope it leads to a solution. Hi, live4ever. If users receive any redirects please have them immediately visit the following page to report the ads responsible: ads.proboards.com/ad-report.htmlReporting an ad is the most effective way to have it removed from the rotation as this gives us all of the information about the advertiser and the specific ad itself to view and duplicate the issue with.
