Whatever the producer, whether it be Sitek or Lillywhite, at the end of the day the songs were just not good enough.
I'm not saying that people don't enjoy them or should not enjoy the,, but there's no hard luck involved - for instance, you simply don't become big by allowing crap like Kill For A Dream or Don't Brother Me on any album. They should have allowed Sitek free reign and written songs in the studio, there was always potential there and if Liam didn't decide to split them up and Andy Bell stopped writing hilariously derivative tunes and came up with something original for the first time in years, then they would have had a future.

Just revisited BE after reading this thread and I actually question if Sitek maybe wasnt hard enough on them?
Soon Come Tomorrow sounds great, Liam sounds absolutely amazing and the ambient guitars are fantastic.. But my god surely surely surely surely it was Siteks job to take Andy to one side and tell him his lyrics are unacceptable. Its a recurring theme that plagues both albums, I cant fathom what on earth Ballroom Figured is even meant to be about.
Soul Love is fantastic though, Liam + Sitek here just good together so well.

Why should a song be simple to understand? Don't Brother Me is a simple song and I think it's not very original. Soon Come Tomorow sounds like a song one would write if one doesn't know what to write about. Also the vocals sound like a first draft, too hesitated, like someone who trys too hard. This song needed rework by the band. The production is actually ok. Ballroom Figured sounds like something that could have been on Be Here Now, a little muddled, but it works well. Sitek's vocal production did work especially well on this.

I'm a fan of Sitek's work. I really like what he did with all of TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and his own solo project Maximum Balloon. He's a good producer.
I really don't think the material was all that good to begin with for Beady Eye and so there's only so much he can do to improve things. I really would have liked to hear the demos before they brought Sitek on board.
