Okay, say all you want about Liam being a shit songwriter (I don't think much of his songwriting myself and no, I wasn't Beady Eye fan #1, but he had his moments, definitely), but this is really sad to read.
I think the lack of success for Beady Eye is something that truly hurt his pride, and I can understand why he wouldn't want to work with a co-writer (that would imply he indeed isn't able to write a decent song, which isn't true), but to know he will never do anything music related again, that is a tough cookie to swallow.
I still kind of had the hope he would find the motivation to work on his voice, find a decent co-writer and producer.
Hmm. Still hope it's not true, but these are my thoughts on the matter.

I read through the facebook comments under this article and really makes me hate some oasis "fans". How much disrepect and hate there is for the man, that sung the lines some of them even wear as tattoos. Stupid fuckers really....

"If you're not self-confident, then what can you be?" ... "If you're not confident, then you're a bag of pork scratchings"
We already knew Liam had given up on music when he tweeted "I'm glad I got out when I did" (or whatever it was), but it is still quite alarming seeing the man speak so plainly about him being mediocre at something. Even though a lot of his bravado, much like Noel's "I am brilliant" thing, was quite obviously put on, he always would have a genuine belief in whatever he was doing at that time being great. A shame to see he's lost that.
That's if these quotes are legit, of course.

This makes me really sad. I hope it was just tongue in cheek.
The thing is, Beady Eye were a good band but LG seems to have this attitude of "I have to be in the biggest band in the world, or nothing". Johnny Marr's solo stuff is overall pretty mediocre and he plays tiny venues, why can't Liam just accept not being hugely successful like he has?

A fan, (kategoldfinch), bumped into Liam Gallagher and when she asked him about his future, Liam replied: “I’m retired now.” and added ” I can write 25 songs but all of them will be shit.”
Seems legit.

That man wrote songs like "Evil Eye", "Boy with the blues" and "Guess god thinks I`m abel". Brilliant stuff.

If you take anything either Gallagher has said and then compare it to what they're saying a few years later, its usually a huge contradiction.
I am as big a fan of Liam as you will find and I think if I genuinely took these comments as gospel then I'd be as sad as the day Oasis broke up.
But being an Oasis fan for so many years, I know one thing you should never do is take what either of them say literally at all.
He just won't stay in the shadows too long, it isn't in his nature.

tbh I wouldnt be surprised if he really has, he hasnt seemed to enjoy singing since the early 2000s and most of the time hes only getting told he cant sing anymore.
though I will say hes only retired unless oasis get back together...

Wasn't one of the last tweets something similar to: " Pass Me Down The Wine LGx"? It can't be that bad if he's still quoting his own songs.

If it's true he said this I wouldn't despair. He likes attention. He likes music. I suspect he'll be back for more at some point. Babbling on Twitter will get old soon enough. He's just being cheeky.

He's retired in that way, that he's premiering new songs only in irish pubs.

If he'd of said that once Oasis split and didn't create Beady Eye, then he'd of had a lot more love from public for going out at the top like a sportsman.
It's a shame now, cause it appears as though he's failed, when clearly compared to most people he hasn't at all.

I don't believe any of this. I actually do tbh, not to say he wont change his mind in a year or two but lets be honest, what can Liam really do? a solo record probably isnt something he would end up doing because from my view he wouldve just stayed in beady eye. I have assumed for quite a while now that we wont see Liam singing again properly unless Noel agrees to a reunion, he hasnt got much reason to go out and do anything else.

What he should of done after Oasis split was move to LA, get an acting coach and get into movies playing the Hardman like Vinnie Jones did. He's got a lot of presence and a good ear for accents.
He'd of had to be a bit more professional with the work but off set he could still be a hell raiser - think Oliver Reed. Could of been even more of a legend.

Confirms what we've already known but still sad to hear.
That said I think a lot of this is bitterness towards Noel as he still tweets about him a lot. Once Noel finishes the CY tour i'm sure he'll think a little differently.

Well, he is still relatively young, he can always change his mind. He also once swore never to do Glastonbury again and then confessed to be full of shit so there you go. Maybe he is just going through a severe bout of midlife crisis and self-doubt, if even Noel said at that recent interview that he is going through a tough time at the moment ...
