The funny thing about this is -- with the exception of the WTSMG tracks -- all of the tracks listed here could have improved the albums they are associated with.
Can't agree with this - in some instances perhaps, but the quality of the B-sides has deteriorated since the DM and MG days, when they were ALL genius.
Heroes - A cover on the main album?
(I Got) The Fever - Boring, noise-laden song.
My Sister Lover - Ditto. These two B-sides are prime examples of the OTT production that put many people off BHN anyway.
The Fame - Like this song. Dunno if better than any BHN album track though.
Flashbax - Likewise
Let's All Make Believe - TOTALLY agree here. A genius song with one of Liam's best ever vocals. Pisses all over I Can See A Liar.
(As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes In Hell - Good tune - album good though? Not sure.
Carry Us All - Very good song, can see why they left it off though. Is not quite top-drawer, unlike...
One Way Road - Which I agree, should've gone on. Rather than PYMWYMI, I'd say.
Full On - Okay tune but not up to it, IMO.
Just Getting Older - Good song, not as good as the album tracks though.
Idler's Dream - Agree, a beautiful song. If Noel had bothered to write another verse for it would be perfect. Would've done well on the record.
Thank You For The Good Times - IMO a good song spoiled by unnecessary over-production to turn it into an "Oasis song"; the result is that it sounds like Some Might Say with the riff from Heroes laid over it. Shame. The Andy Bell acoustic version of this song shows it's potential, but the band version is a missed opportunity.
Shout It Out Loud - Very good song. Not sure what, if anything, I'd knock off the album to make room for it, though. Little By Little?
(You've Got) The Heart Of A Star - Lovely song. I'd have rather Noel finished Idler's Dream and put that on, though.
Eyeball Tickler - Really like this tune. A Bell Will Ring probably edges it, though, in terms of them putting Gem songs on the album. Prefer this to Lyla though, in honesty.
Won't Let You Down - Like this song. Do I like it better than Love Like A Bomb or GGTIA? Nope. Suspect the band felt the same.
Pass Me Down The Wine - As above, really.
The Quiet Ones - You're having a laugh, this is terrible. Short, pointless, dull. A great example of how B-sides don't get the care and attention they used to.
Sittin' Here In Silence - Same thing. Nice enough song, but a complete rehash of Sexy Sadie by The Beatles and a bit pointless at 2 minutes.
So there are a couple of exceptions, but generally Noel has gotten better at not throwing away the grat songs on B-sides. however, that may just be because the B-sides have gotten worse?
The biggest balls-up he ever made in this regard was not saving The Masterplan for Be Here Now.
