I'm probably really behind on this, but I just heard his new song. First song I've really liked by him since his first album (I thought his second album was a major step backwards, most of it being bland and cliche). I'm hoping he takes this blues approach for his new album. He's not a country artist, and honestly I cringe every time I hear a country type song from him. I think his best songs are ones that are more psychological beyond his years and experiences, so the past (On My One, Two Fingers, Lightning Bolt, and Seen it All), than the love sick pinned ballads and overt gestures to a younger generation when he's dealing with present events on his second album. What do you guys think?

I might be in the minority but I think he's really kind of overrated. Personally, I don't like anything from his first two albums and I find him a bit annoying to be honest...
This new song... well, it's better than any track from his second album but it's still pretty dull.

I have high hopes after hearing On My One and I'm looking forward to hearing his other output.

"Don't know how to take it in, is love just suffering? Because I can see where the chapter ends I've got autumn leaves and heartbreak dreams inside, inside Because you and and me on this frozen sea we slide, slide
I'll wait all on my own like a flower in the snow With just my shadow following me out into the cold Where I walk past the trees to look for my love"
I'm not going to add anything else.

his 1st lp i think is brilliant even though he has a co-songwrter,,his 2nd lp good not as good as the 1st but still good,,3rd i suppose i'll see when its out,,and is it such a big deal he has a co writer when people on here bang on about how liam could do a good solo lp if he had a co writer to help him out

I could be completely wrong but I'm sure this new album supposed to be 100% him? I don't think it's a problem at all only came a problem when Noel called him out for it (or so it seemed) Like you say many people accept it in different artists Elvis & Elton John two of bigger acts ever and people don't bet an eye lid

The norm is more having co-writers, at least commercially speaking. Noel is one of the few exceptions, and that's only on the British charts where he's somewhere between the 15-25 spots on the charts. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if Liam had a co-writer. As long as he doesn't go Beyonce and have 20 writers on one track

I love the first album, reminds me of the La's and early BeeGees. The second was okay but nothing special. Looking forward to hearing more.

I'm with lamboasis on Slide being great. That first album was good (the first half being the best in my opinion), but I didn't care for Shangri La. I don't buy into him not having a co-writer this time around either, there's probably going to be songs solely by him, but not the whole thing. On My One makes the album sound promising though.

His voice sounds like a mix of Richard Ashcroft and Lee Mavers.

Jake now on BBC Radio 1. All the songs written only by him on the new album, which will be released around june.
The new single is basically electro pop/rock

Does he write his own songs yet? I think that lost him some street cred didn't it, plus him slaughtering the X factor lot for doing the same thing that he was doing in the first place. Don't play the working class card to get yourself over. I remember Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller bigging him up saying he reminded them of their younger selfs and the music press were saying he's the next big thing. Once it came out he hired a bunch of professional songwriters to help him write his tunes, out came Noel knocking him for not writing his songs and saying he's a "nice lad". I thought he was overrated, his first album has some nice tunes but his second was very poor. I saw him live when he was supporting the Arctic Monkeys in Dublin a year or so ago and he wasn't great live either, maybe playing at smaller places suits him better. But he has his fanbase of screaming teenage girls so someone out there loves him.

His first album is probably on my top-five list. I think added almost every song on that album on my starred list on spotify, which says something. Usually a good album has a few amazing songs, and then the rest are good or decent. "Jake Bugg" has Country Song, Slide, Broken, Two Fingers, Someone Told Me, Simple As This and etc. A brilliant album, and very well produced. The second album was not as good, but it still has some good songs. I think they went wrong with how they mixed/produced his vocals, because he has a very high-pitched nasal voice that sound a bit dry and tiresome if there's not enough reverb and stuff like that put on it. The first record was way better at this.
His influences are great as well, drawing on Johnny Cash, Donovan, Don McLean, The Everly Brothers, Jimi Hendrix and so on.
The critisism for not writing all of the songs himself is a bit weird. I guess this comes down to him being more insecure (at least to begin with) and less egoistic than Noel. If it was Noel, he would probably just given himself the sole writing credits for the song, and just given the co-writer producing credits for it. There are also quite a few songs on both of the albums that he wrote completely by himself. Of course I was a bit dissapointed when I found out that he had some help with some of the songs, but come on. There's not much music out there today (at least in the charts) that show such talent and artistry as this guy has. I've seen him play two times, and believe me when I say that he can sing amazingly good live. Especially on the first gig he did in Norway for the first album, he blew me away with his singing. In the same gig he also did a version of "Ballad of Mr.Jones" that was so heavy and "thick" sounding that it reminded me of Gas Panic. He's also a brilliant guitarist for someone that young, just check out the "guitar moves episode 7" on youtube if you want to see some of it.
Don't know what to expect from the new album though. On My One is pretty decent, bluesy number with good vocals but not very much going on. Not sure what to think of Gimme The Love though.

I really enjoyed his first album and loved the soft feel. When his second album came out it took me awhile to get used to the "heavier" songs he played since the ones on the first one were pretty light. That being said, I think that the first two albums are great. Listening to his newest song however, (Gimme The Love) I thought it wasn't that great. The style of the song just sounded really off from what he's produced in the past. Hopefully all of his album isn't like that While we're talking about Jake Bugg, anyone know where to download Jake Bugg bootlegs and demos?

Saw him live a couple of years ago, he sounded good, but he was a bit boring, playing with his eyes closed, not saying anything except "thanks" and all. Oh well, he's a young lad. I like some of his songs, Lightning Bolt, Simple As This, Two Fingers, What Doesn't Kill You, Seen It All..the songs that are more in that vein are his better songs imo. Anyway, haven't heard anything from him in a while.

Loved his first album and headed up to the North for Eurosonic in a freezing January to see him and Temples 3 years ago. Saw him twice again later, but I ended up in second balcony at the last his Paradiso gig because I had to escape from all those young girls and 60 years old women around me.

Gimme The Love is a fantastic song, been playing it loads these past couple of days. Fair play to him for writing his songs now, I hope he can fulfill the potential that we heard in his debut album. The second album was very below average, I think he rushed it out too soon.

I really am not bothered in the slightest by him having a co-writer. Having 20 like Beyonce is a different story.
