I was thinking - wouldnt this be the best combination?
(Taking into account that they will never make another DM or WTS - and we shouldnt want that anyway. we already have that. let's see what else they can do! hell, it might - god for bid - be better than DM! -- BLASPHEMY lol)
Seriously, though.
We all love the sound of BHN (loud, great long guitar solos, overall fantastic sound)
We all love the maturity of DBTT (focused lyrically, album flows, produced well, good musically)
We all hate some aspects of BHN (too long, non-sensical lyrics for the most part)
We all hate some aspect of DBTT (no guitar solos, slightly boring)
*Ok, the nonsensical lyrics on BHN do make the album more fun. But, just as we shouldnt want another DM and WTS, we shouldnt want a carbon copy of BHN either. -- Thus, if you combine the two good aspects, you negate the bad aspects
You would have an album that is -Big in sound -Loud with guitar solos -good lyrically -full of energy and excitement
EXCITING BUT MATURE at the same time.
Seems like the perfect album, doesnt it? too good to be true? perhaps.
But i reckon this is what is in store for us in the summer of 2008.
Noel has stated he wants to emulate the big sound of BHN. But this time round, Noel is not on coke. Liam has grown up. And the band is more focused. Therefore, he will get that big sound - but with better lyrics!
I really do think the next album is gonna be mega. Yeah, it's not wise to hype things up - only sets the stage for disappointment. But the signs are there that Oasis are on the up, and we have a right to expect a fantastic album.
*Oasis wont be propelled back to 1996 god-like status though. Sadly, they'll never get their again i dont think. Americans have forever written them off. Critics already have their minds made up. But it will be recieved just as well or better than DBTT (4/5 stars from most of the media). But it will show that DBTT wasnt a one off - Oasis are finally back on form. And they'll have at least convinced most that they should be around still for another 2-3 albums and that they arnt "has beens"
Most importantly, though, us Oasis fans will fuckin love it.
Thoughts?

How is that even possible? They are two completely different albums.
So, basically (according to you) the next album will be loud, have guitar solos, good lyrics, and a lot of energy. So it will be Definitely Maybe?

As is always the case with Oasis, they'll come out with something completely different than anyone thought, with completely different songs than anyone speculated, a different sound, a different release date, and maybe a different drummer!
You never know with Oasis until you're actually listening to the album. And even then you think, "Wait a second, I still don't believe it."
I'll admit a BHN/DBTT hybrid would be about my favorite sound. We'll see what happens though.

Be Here Now is actually my favorite Oasis album... it's huge and to this day puts me in a great mood. I love the production... some of the songs are too long and could have been arranged/recorded a bit differently (let Magic Pie grow instead of blasting into the second verse etc.) and some of the b-sides would have been better choices for album tracks, but you could say this for any Oasis record.
Initially I was hoping for this new record to have a lot of the vibe of Be Here Now (from what Noel had said about wanting this record to be big with string sections etc.), but Sardy comes nowhere near Owen Morris in terms of raw, wall of sound production... Sardy is very much a precision producer, focusing on clarity rather than elaborate, huge sound.
After Noel said he wanted to make a "big" record again like Be Here Now, Liam later said they were focusing on the "grooves" more for this one, which makes me think more of SOTSOG. Personally, I don't care about grooves, and I'd give my left leg to have Owen Morris back producing Oasis. They've lost a lot of their vibe since they stopped working with him.

WE NEED A NEW FUCKIN ANTHEM! totally agree with you on that one, and maybe a new classic like Revolution Song could be. I totally love that one, sometimes I think it could be the best song Noel's ever written. I could go for a proper recording of it on the next album. And maybe another song with screaming guitars and screaming Liam like on Fade-In-Out

Guys, i luv oasis, I'm sorry to ruin your little party but in honesty, Ive a strong feeling this album is gonna be shit... Something like: DBTT + The shit parts of Heathen Chemsitry + U2's "All that you can't leave behind" + Coldplay's Politik. And that means Maturity seriousness and basic semi-acoustic guitars.......yaaawwwnnnnn Seriously....like we cant have any proper fast songs and we haven't since the days of Tony Mac..... Like zak starkey, great drummer and whatever but hes sooooo slow..... I'm not just guessing aswell. Like listen to Liam in any interview and hes all about being mature and how its all about pure rock and all this??......well then givus some??!!!! I no everyone loves Noel but theres certain things which has done or is doing which slightly fuck things up.....not good...not good/ Ohhh btw.....the best id be hopin for is SOTSOG:D Another Go Let It Out or Or Gas Panic I think would be good....

It seems I'm alone on this one, but I wouldn't mind hearing a mellow Oasis album for once. I could care less if they're "on stage rocking it out." I just want some good tunes! If they were to rip their own sound off, they should probably try to redo the BHN sound with fewer overdubs and more thought into the tracklist.
I haven't complained on this board yet, but what is up with all of the SOTSOG fans? To me, that is their weakest album. Heathen Chemistry is slightly above it, and that's not saying too much.
Anyway, an album with songs that sound like "Songbird" and "Pass Me Down the Wine" would make me happy, but an album with lots of rockers on it would also be suitable.

It's a great album. There are seven fooking top tracks on it, and it's the most interesting they've sounded since Morning Glory. There's nothing wrong with a bit of experimentation. Besides, they've grown as a band to the point where, if they wrote a similar album now, it'd probably walk into most Oasis fans' top three. They were in fucking turmoil back then and still managed to come up with the goods.

Heathen Chemistry is sounds like a dull rehash, especially when compared to SotSoG. Can't even sit through an entire listen of HC, Force of Nature, She Is Love, and Better Man are just dreadful. Well, at least it has Songbird and The Hindu Times.

i want them to branch out into more than their "comfort zone," which after sotsog, they immediately went back to. they nearly had it with sotsog. if they had taken out little james and rubbish like that and replaced them with proper b-sides like let's all make believe or one way road, it would have been in their top 3 (maybe 2) records of oasis' career.
