For the record, I freaking love both these records. Two of the best records ever produced in my opinion for any band. For me it's hit after hit after hit on every track. It's too difficult for me so I'd put them at a tie. This thread is dedicated to Beady’s Here Now

whoch one of the two is the worst would be an easier question to answer. Rattle and Hum.

Achtung all the way. Sure, I love The Joshua Tree, but Achtung Baby is the sound of a band gone out of fashion putting its balls on the line by reinventing itself and subverting everything that the public thought they knew about this band. In any other artist's hands, this would've been a complete disaster, but yet, U2 pulled it off, and laid the template for the stylistic changes of all future bands. I can't think of any artist today (not even U2 themselves!!) with enough spine to even attempt so radical a move.

War>Achtung Baby>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Joshua Tree (boy, october, zooropa, unforgettable fire, all that you can't leave behind go in between)
there's something that I've always liked about war. maybe it's the raw sound, maybe it's the great delivery that bono's and edge's vocals make (as always), maybe it's lovely songs like seconds, the refugee, sunday bloody sunday, new year's day or 40.
after that there's achtung baby which is (almost, really really close) as good and majestic as the aforementioned. it's like putting on brand new shoes right after stepping on dogshit (rattle and hum), and shoes of the best kind. I especially like mysterious ways, until the end of the world, zoo station, light my way, acrobat, love is blindness, even better than the real thing, and wild horses
then there's joshua tree, which I never really understood how it is so critically acclaimed (please don't kill me). I mean, it's not bad, it has some awesome tracks (bullet the blue sky, red hill mining town, still haven't found what I'm looking for, with or without you, exit, trip through your wires) and is far from worst (rattle and hum) but the rest of it feels somewhat off. I particularly find "running to stand still" and "where the streets have no name" somewhat dull, and that always makes me question why they tend to be on many of the "best of U2" lists.
also, am I the only one who hates pop? there's not even a single track off that album that I could even listen to from start to end

joshua tree because achtung baby is full of clichés, overproduced and features what is probably my least-favorite U2 song of all-time, mysterious ways. i detest that song, it makes me gag.

Achtung Baby for me, just a wonderful album from the first song until the last. It's the last U2 album that hasn't got a duff track on it. I love Joshua Tree, especially Red Hill Mining Town, and it's the last time ever sounded epic. Both classic albums for me, but AB gets the vote for been slightly braver.

'One' is far and away the best song they've ever written.

We all know Zooropa is the real winner here.

We all know Zooropa is the real winner here. i fucking love zooropa. standouts for me are lemon, stay (faraway, so close), some days are better than others, the title track, and the wanderer with johnny cash. all great tunes. now THAT'S a record with balls. probably the most underrated and overlooked album in their cannon.

Look at their first ever appearance on Irish tv and hear what the guy who introduces them says. Quite amazing!

What's everyone's opinion on All That you Can't Leave Behind? For me the last truly great U2 album.
