Best song/recording since The BEATLES. Recorded in a stable. Well, Jesus was born in a stable wasn't he!

I love their album, for sure. Were you here for the La's Elimination a while back? I was surprised Failure got voted out so soon, its one my favourites on the album.

I take it you've discovered them? Well enjoy that album because it's the only one you'll probably ever get.

Well Flatulence Panic, because you've spammed the entire forum with their songs, I paused my Smiths binge to sample these guys. And d'you know what? They're not bad at all! Neo-sixties ftw.

No way, I've been listening to their debut album for ages just never heard "Over" before it's an amazing tune. I must have listened to it about 20 times last night. The only song i've ever heard that comes close to anything The BEATLES did.

Yeah they're great man. If you've never heard them before you're in for a treat. Everyone goes on about Looking Glass, Clean Prophet etc but to me that recording of "Over" LIVE is better than both of them.

God I love The La's. Their album is in my top five desert island records. That said, they have my vote as the most frustrating band of all time. Enjoy the album, but expect nothing else. Even if they announce a new song or album, don't believe it until you're actually listening to it. (And if they announce a tour, don't believe it until they're playing live in front of you—and if they play, expect essentially the same set of songs that they played in 1988.) If you don't, you're only going to be massively let down.
I had tickets to see them in NYC in 2011—their first show in America in 20 years—and they cancelled. Mavers hasn't released any songs since 1990 since he still thinks the first record wasn't recorded properly. (That's why so many producers had their hand in producing it.)
In other words, there should be a picture of Lee Mavers next to the word "unreliable" in the dictionary. At least John Power releases albums—and Cast are a massively underrated group.
edit: If you want similar bands to The La's, check out The Stairs and Shack. Both are Liverpudlian groups from the same era.

Songs like "Ride Yer Camel" and "Callin' All" never fail to blow me away. They sound as if they could have been written centuries ago. Truly timeless music.

Never had a 7" before that did that. Sounds good though. Really like the alternate version of Feelin' ! Shows the quality of musicianship in the band.

Fantastic album, that album would have been even bigger if it was released during the Britpop era. But it was a influence on Oasis, what I love about the album is the songs are short and snappy. No bolloxing about with strings or crap like that. It has early Beatles, Buddy Holly and Love all over it.
Saw then live when they did that mini reunion in the early to mid 2000's, Very good live act too.
