I'm really into a canadian band moment at the moment: Alvvays
Love the melancholic feel, reminds me a bit of the La's, Ride, Pavement with a bit of Oasis.

The 1975-Love Me = David Bowie-Fame And the singer wants to be Michael Hutchence (late leadsinger of INXS), so it seems. I heard this song on the radio and thought its like Bowie doing Duran Duran or something. Decent number I thought. Never seen the band so I can't comment on the Michael Hutchence bit.

Came across The Buzzcocks on Allmusic the other day - was surprised to learn that they're from Bolton, the little old grey town where I was born, grew up, and still live. If you could see just how dour Bolton is, you'd know why I was so surprised. Never have heard any of their music though. What would you recommend? Definitely the Singles Going Steady album, compiling all their Asides and (equally strong) Bsides from 1977-1982. That's the one to get. If you want one single song, start at the 'beginning' with Orgasm Addict. For something new, try Reconciliation. The 3 albums from the original punk years are all amazing, the 3 albums from the 90s after they reformed are decent to pretty good but their 00s output has been almost as good as their punk years. Flat Pack Philosophy (2006) is my favourite after the classics. Thanks. Will definitely give them a go. Where is it you're seeing them? And, just a quick one, have you got a physical copy of Wish? Because I bought it off iTunes the other day, and it's INSANELY quiet - like SOTSOG but even worse.

HÆLOS. Dreamy, mysterious and very trip-hop influenced. Really looking forward to their debut, most of the songs I've heard from them so far are great. Definitely one of the most interesting new bands around just now.

THE STONE ROSES JUST ANNOUNCED A NEW YORK SHOW.... MADISON SQUARE GARDEN MOTHERFUCKERS WOOOOOOOOOOOOO #fuckyeah #cantwait #blessed Wow that's a serious venue...I didn't think the Stone Roses could draw that much of a crowd in the US. I would love to see them live too, knowing full well Ian Brown is tune deaf live.

It's an awful venue but its my only shot to see them. I do have a physical copy of Wish and it is loud indeed. I don't buy a lot off iTunes but I have found the sound is often so much lower than it should be. Maybe we're all going deaf together.

Richard Ashcroft slowly squeezed Nick McCabe out of The Verve, didn't he?
Evidence: A Storm in Heaven: Guitar based album, psychedelic guitars are the only reason anyone listens to that album. Only one song credited to just Ashcroft.
A Northern Soul: Still heavy, but more "songy", and guitars are less pronounced than before. Two songs credited to just Ashcroft, both released as two of the three singles from that album.
Urban Hymns: Practically a Richard solo album.
No wonder they broke up so many times!

The description won me over! I like them too but to me they sound like a more upbeat post-punk Joy Division with a bit of My Bloody Valentine, particularly the vocals. But I do hear a bit of the Las in Marry Me Archie. The self titled album is a pretty song and easy listen at 9 tracks, 33 minutes.

That Alvvays record still gets me. It was my favorite record in 2014. Literally a perfect indie-pop record with some tasty guitar hooks.
Been listening to a lot of Gang Of Four recently. One of the best post-punk bands, and maybe my favorite. Entertainment! is just a pure classic. Every song is a knock out, but those first five track just hit you like few albums do. Natural's Not In It, Damaged Goods, and Anthrax are top tier and all-time rock n' roll classics. Essential if you're into punk.
Franz Ferdinand kinda made a career of ripping them off, and that's coming from someone who adores that self-titled record.

Why do so many people think Johnny Marr is a bad/mediocre singer? He might not be Morrissey, but his singing is absolutely fine to me.
