I probably forgot something. I think Let It Be and Strangeways deserves a mention but I couldn't list them cos I haven't listened to them enough.

I had a few of the songs spinning, the other day. Was gobsmacked to still find me hearing little intricate sounds I swear I've never heard before. I'm dying to Push their backs against the grain And fool them all again and againI'm trying to We bitches tear our magazines Those Oligarchs with foaming mouths call Now and thenCan't believe for just one second I'm forgetting youI'm trying tooI'm dying tooOh, David...

Karen Carpenter is one of the greatest drummers of all time. Seriously. A lot of the drumming on their records was actually by legendary Wrecking Crew and jazz trained drummer Hal Blaine, who was also on countless records with (one of my all time favourite bassists) Carol Kaye including The Beach Boys, The Monkees and a whole host of classic 1960's and 1970's releases- The Wrecking Crew (Wiki)
Hal spoke in a 2012 interview about why Karen didn't play on those sessions, as well as how advising Karen to lower her singing by three keys and just how problematic and pushy Karen and Richard's parents were as despite Karen's vocal talent her parents were insistent that Richard was the star- Jazzwax May 2012
Yeah, I realise that - but watching videos of her playing the drums and she is absolutely fantastic. I read a story of Keith Moon getting really pissed off that he came behind Carpenter in a best drummers poll, which I thought was hilarious.

What does everyone think is the greatest final album by a recording artist? Besides Blackstar, we already know theyknowwhatimean was gonna say that. Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water. Any album that contains The Boxer on it is always going to be great.

This is Norway's newest councilor: It was probably all the black metal and cat lovers who voted Fenriz in.

I've just discovered this lovely woman. Synthesizer porn... davidjay might like it carlober I heard this earlier - a new collaboration between Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Suzanne Ciani. The layered synth sounds and immersive stereo mix combine to trippy effect. Those ambient textures remind me a lot of Delia Derbyshire's later work as well. Very atmospheric.

Anybody else here into the Ramones? I think there's maybe 1 or 2. They are terrific. Their first 4 albums are absolutely essential listening - if you like those, you may enjoy the rest to varying degrees (I like most of them). Their first album is having a 40th anniversary reissue. This is an album that was a total game changer for the class of 76-82 and for myself so many years later when I first discovered them. Just very raw, primal beats, buzzsaw guitar, nervous yelping, and very unique songwriting.
Try these:
You might like it

Their self titled debut album is timeless. "1, 2, 3", Blitzkieg Bop and their "Merry Christmas" is my all time favourite Christmas song. My another other bands thought for the day is this one. Erland and The Carnival's self titled debut album. Still so beautiful and brilliant. I discovered them at London Calling in 2010. They were the opener at the first night. Talented Erland Cooper and Simon Tong (x-The Verve). This album was recorded at Damon Albarn's studio. Even only matt and I on here know how fantastic this album was/is...

I've just (randomly) found these two comments on Last.fm about Alison by Slowdive. They perfectly fit my feelings about it... the essence of melancholy made into a song, basically. But also tinged with a small hint of uplifting emotions and old memories.
Reminds me of being a kid in the back of my parents car in the 90s, looking out the window at the blue sky and the clouds as the car zoomed down the highway. Also reminds me of a girl that used to love me.
This sounds like all the memories I don't remember, all the parties I didn't go to, all the friends I could have had and all the good moments in life I missed.

This is incredibly creepy and awkward to watch and to hear. This music gave me a really bad headache. Thank you, Mr. Fripp
