Pulp wrote two of the best songs of the 1990s with Common People and This Is Hardcore.

Turns out John Frusciante of the RHCP has quite the extensive solo catalogue. I just heard 'What I Saw' and liked it.
(side thought: oh great, now ANOTHER artist who i want to discover but will never get the time to fully enjoy!)

On a scale from 0 to 10, what's your tolerance for shit music? 0 being that you can only listen to masterpieces, 10 you don't know the difference between Viva Brother and the Beatles.
I'd have to say that I'd rank about a 5.8.

BLACKBIRD by damon albarn and paul weller with the syrian national orchestra (holland festival) >> Very beautiful. Weller's guest appearance was just announced 2 weeks ago, so I couldn't make it. He'll join Albarn and The Syrian National Orchestra in London this Saturday too.

Imo, The Drugs Don't Work is Aschroft's finest tune, ever. On par with some Oasis classics.

I always think Nils K. Rue masturbated before doing vocals for United Alliance, tears sounds like jizz in our eyes (OUCH!!!!)

I do actually prefer a lot of 'A Northern Soul and 'Urban Hymns' to Oasis songs, although whilst loving 'Verve EP' and 'A StormIn Heaven' era Verve it isn't as comparable to Oasis as it is more in the space rock vein like Spiritualized (the band with a Richard Ashcroft lookalike in Jason Pierce whose keyboardist and partner Kate Radley left him for Richard Ashcroft to whom she is still married).

Gone by U2. What a fucking incredibly underrated tune.

I ordered Morrissey tickets today and caaaaaaaan't f...... wait! Seriously, I don't remember the time I was that enthusiastic before a concert. Maybe seeing Noel for the first time in 2010. Still, I'm a bit pissed because the concert of Damon and the syrian orchestra in Cologne was cancelled and I was really looking forward to it. The reasons are apparently "organisational", which is annoying. So I'm now hoping for a Gorillaz tour next year...Damon, Moz and Richard Ashcroft are the first on my "have to see live" list.

You're especially lucky as I heard that Morrissey wasn't going to tour anymore due to health reasons.

I listened to Julian Casablancas' (of the Strokes) solo album Phrazes for the Young. It's actually pretty good. Should have been the record the Strokes made instead of Angles or Comedown Machine. Here's my favourite track off it:

Tame Impala. What's all the fuss about them? (Or him, if you consider TI a pure Kevin Parker project...) I finally listened to Currents today (I'm only one year late, yay! ) and I have to say it was pretty underwhelming.

Forbidden City by Electronic (led by Bernard Sumner & Johnny Marr) was released on this very day 20 years ago. I've always loved the tune, one of Electronic's best in my opinion (very underrated band, by the way). Johnny Marr's jangly riffs are unmistakable. Some geek info: the guitar played by Johnny in the video is a '59 Gibson ES-355 Custom with Bigsby vibrato, and it was supposedly used to record The Queen Is Dead (the song). It's a bit different from most 355s because it lacks the Varitone switch, the pickup switch is on the lower horn and it's got bound f-holes. I spotted it for sale last year at approximately 40k dollars. That's an awful lot of money, but imagine owning (and playing!) such a unique piece of music history...

Just finished listening to The Getaway by RHCP for the first time.
Really good album on first listen. Danger Mouse produced the band well and it sounds much better than IWY; a lot more focused. Plus, Josh sounds fully incorporated into the band. The first two tracks, Sick Love, The Longest Wave, Goodbye Angels, and Detroit are good examples of that.
All of the songs are solid and there are many, many top tracks on this one but if I had to pick three, I'd go with Encore, Goodbye Angels, and The Longest Wave as the ones that stick out the most.
I think this album proves just how amazing their work is across their whole discography for how much they've branched out from the funk genre while still being funk at the core. This album feels like a great addition to that.

I think it's time for a new reissue of The Stone Roses Could reissue Turns into Stone, it's a year short I know from a 25th Anniversary but what's a year when you are wringing every last penny out of a relatively small catalogue celebrating a great band?

I finally listened to Currents today (I'm only one year late, yay! ) and I have to say it was pretty underwhelming. Wow really? I'm surprised. Then again I've been obsessed with Kevin Parker since their debut in 2010. He's going to be a super producer one day if not already. Guy is talented. Try their first two albums. More straight forward psychedelic rock.

This album feels like a great addition to that. I'm actually listening to it right now, my third listen. I agree, its a really solid and consistent album. Its got the funk elements but with a more 'mature' edge (for the lack of a better word). Not a bad track of the 13 on there. However, it does lack the effortless brilliance of their top albums (Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Californication, Mother's Milk) but its definitely in their 2nd tier of albums (along with By the Way, One Hot Minute and probably Stadium Arcadium). And I agree that Josh is perfectly at home in this album. My favourite tracks are The Getaway, Dark Necessities, Go Robot, Sick Love, and Ticonderoga. I'm also partial to the cover art

Like Lennon said, maybe you could try his earlier albums, or the singles of that. It's pretty different as Currents is more keyboards/synths based.

I love the Last Shadow Puppets' new album and will see them live soon. I was watching their Glastonbury gig yesterday and I just can't get over Alex Turner's appearance (performance? ) on stage. Seems so weird sometimes, like all out of sudden, a couple of years ago, he made up this massive ego and from then on acted accordingly. Weird guy, great songwriter and a person I don't really get. Nice taste covering Bowie's Moonage Daydream though

I've been listening to this track on pretty heavy rotation recently and I've got to say it's becoming a real fast favourite of mine. Pure, unfiltered evil. Love it.
Did you hear that, I got a real bad feeling, How many moans do you suppose they're keeping? Don't make a sound they're not dead, just sleeping.
