If I had a gun? Best song on the album. Glad Noel got the co-credit in the liner notes.

Cool to see fellow Manchester band James got their first ever UK no1 studio album earlier today, knocking Beyonce off the top spot.

I remember seeing something for Paul Weller doing a US tour but I didn’t know he’d be playing a proper tour! Playing at First Avenue on September 16th. I think I need to go to that! I saw him on Tuesday and it was a fantastic gig. It was my fourth or fifth time seeing him, and I think this is my favourite lineup he’s had in the time that I’ve been going to Weller gigs (from 2017 onwards). The addition of ex-Style Councillor Jackie Peake on alto sax, clarinet, and flute worked a treat; the young lad who’s taken over bass duties has a nice voice for high harmonies; and as ever having two drummers, along with a keyboardist who provides percussion, really rounds the sound out nicely. Go see ‘em!

If I had a gun? The first time I heard If I Had A Gun, I wondered if Noel had lifted it from Roddy Woomble's solo album. Go to 1.52 for the same melody.

This is what it feels like to have the crowd only sing 3 lines at you. Bonus points if you can name the venue, the song is Valhalla and the city is London.

That morning glory but that’s a different story line in Country House is just a coincidence right? I don’t know when Country House was written and can’t recall if Oasis’ album title was announced by the summer of ‘95 or late summer ‘95.
Like stood out to me right away cause… you know.

Yeah has to be a pure coincidence. Both songs would have been written around the same time and there’s no way either band would have heard the other one before recording

I don’t know when Country House was written and can’t recall if Oasis’ album title was announced by the summer of ‘95 or late summer ‘95. Like stood out to me right away cause… you know. It is a coincidence I reckon but Acquiesce which starts off (and also ends) with a sung snatch of Noel on acoustic belting out "Weeeelll, what's the story morning glory" was released on the Some Might Say single well ahead of the WTSMG album release in Oct '95. SMS was April '95 and, of course was the band's first number one. Among other influences the phrase "what's the story morning glory" was inspired by Noel's on-off old flame Melissa Lim and he wrote Talk Tonight largely about her. Noel phoned Lim and she responded with the greeting - Lim took it from the 1960s musical Bye Bye Birdie which she was a fan, There you go, says Noel, that's the name of the group's 2nd album title. At 1:08) I have always assumed that Albarn's reference to morning glory in his lyric is about the classic male "morning erection" / wood, given it's quite a jolly, Cockney comic tune. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocturnal_penile_tumescence

Manic Street Preachers fans: Where does one n00b completely start? Do you like Guns N Roses? Their first two albums. Oasis? Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth. After that if you like the more poetic lyrics you go back to The Holy Bible. Want more vibes like Truth? Lifeblood. More excess like the first album? Know Your Enemy. A revival of the britpop albums(truth, EMG) Send Away The Tigers and Postcards from a Young Man. If you want something more alike The Holy Bible then Journal for Plague lovers. Futurology and Rewind The Film were recorded at the same time but have different vibes. So for short Punk/GnR sound Generation Terrorists Gold Against The Soul The Holy Bible Know Your Enemy Journal for Plague Lovers Futurology Orchestral/Britpop sound Everything Must Go This is my truth Lifeblood Send Away The Tigers Postcards from A Young Man Rewind The Film I didn't put the 3 lastest Manics albums

Cindy Lee’s Jubilee is what I think Noel was trying to pull off with his infamous AA album. This new Cindy Lee record is 32 song long opus that makes you feel like you are driving from Arizona to LA in the late 60s with long lost AM gems playing on the radio. It’s got low fi indie rock guitars, spaghetti western guitars, psychedelic guitars, acoustic guitars, Phil Spector production, Ennio Morricone instrumentals, Beach Boys bounce, glam rock, Soul, Velvet Underground quirks, etc. I can’t tell if a guy is singing, a woman singing or a children’s church choir. Loads of action. So much to discover.
The album isn’t on any streaming service. Only YouTube or a direct pay what you want from their website. In Rainbows style.
Noel is still a pussy.

Stumbled across this article. I thought Squire left near June instead of late March. Interesting read.

Such a beautiful melancholic album. Perfect for the autumn and winter time.

Everything Must Go is a good album and has some of their best singles on it. But I've never really been a massive fan of them anyway.

Apart from the usual suspects, #8 is a huge suprise, non? So much for that no one outside France listens to Michel.

Lemon Twigs has a new album out, and its obviously amazing.
Those guys can replicated any sound, any band, its impressive: this time, 70s Beach Boys / Wings, and Simon and Garfunkel on acid.
