Blink 182 have released a new single, the first one after Tom DeLonge left the band last year.
It's not a bad tune, but it confirms my fears: the new Blink with Matt Skiba as lead guitarist/singer totally sound like a Blink cover band. He even tries to mimic Tom's voice, for fuck's sake!
They should at least have the decency to drop the Blink name, imho. Blink without Tom DeLonge is like Oasis without Noel Gallagher, i.e. Beady Eye.

Procol Harum are a great band, even if the mainstream only knows A whiter Shade of Pale (they helped me get into Barclay James Harvest)

Three criminally underrated Blur songs: -Oily Water -Magic America -Mr. Robinson's Quango Agree about Oily Water, I also think Young and Lovely and When the Cows Come Home are underrated. Although the latter is a bit fucking ridiculous, there's something about it I like. Ah, Young and Lovely...that song is as good a b-side as anything Oasis ever did. Blur have a lot of stupid b-sides, instrumentals, covers, half-assed songs, but that one is absolutely perfect and should have been a single itself. When The Cows Come Home is great too, very Kinks-like in lyrics and style: "Wake up a little voice says to you eagerly You mustn't let yourself sink financially Don't listen to the accusation that you're tight You could be the first man on your street to get it right"

A message from the gorgeous Ed Harcourt:
"My passport has been renewed so I'm ready to come visit those who don't live on these fair isles. Soon. All in good time. Edward xx"

Don't think too much when you're listening to "no distance left to run". You'll end up crying.

New Order great band, even if the production on some of their songs are dated, the melodies stands out.

New Order "Temptation" is such a perfect, perfect song. It's on the Trainspotting soundtrack, which I'm currently playing.

I'd say even the production on everything from PCL era to Technique has aged incredibly well. I mean that they music from that era has aged a bit by modern productions technics, eletronica is a genre which is constantly evolving, but those melodies will never get old. Blue Monday was considered cutting edge at the time and it's very impressive till today.

I've always liked T-Rex. But at the moment, I'm really into their stuff. Marc Bolan was a great songwriter, too much overlooked. If I'll have to choose one T-Rex song, it will be "Cosmic Dancer". Majestic song.

Vapour Trail is widely acknowledged as Ride's best song, and it probably is. But you can't beat the shoegazy, raw power of Leave Them All Behind... what a fucking tune!

Majestic song. You heard the There Was A Time / Raw Ramp / Electric Boogie medley? Along with Telegram Sam and Mambo Sun, it's just about my favourite thing Bolan ever did. From acoustic, string-laden balladry, to pure glam rock loveliness, it's got everything you could possibly want from a T. Rex song (including bongos!). Take a listen below, if you haven't heard it before: But yeah, Cosmic Dancer is awesome too! As one of the Amorphous Androgynous guys said, there's a great 'space' to the record. Visconti really brought it on that one.

I don't like Vampire Weekend for one simple reason: the singer.
He sounds a bit like the singer from Maroon Five, his voice is too nice, he needs a bit more aggression, more tension.
That's too bad cos their instrumentation sounds really good.
Look outside at the raincoats coming, say oh
Ah, fuck him.

I can't get enough of Nightclubbing by Iggy Pop (/Bowie) at the moment. Compare this to the "music" that is played on the radio these days...At least the records will be there to listen to for - hopefully - ever.

Not even half of the year 2016, but I bought pretty some brilliant releases so far. There's still so many great music to find when you open your ears.

And talking about Visconti, he was (still is actually) a great, great producer and a bit overlooked. He played a part on Bowie's brillance like Martin with The Bestles. I even like his job on Blackstar, though I must say, I'm not a big fan of the album.

I'm listening now to the Who's 60s best of Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy. What a terrific bunch of songs. The sound they had - that crashing guitar, rumbling bass, phenomenal drumming, and Roger's versatile voice - really comes through on this collection of 14 songs. I bought this almost 15 years ago for $5. You really can't ask for more than that.
I will have to listen to my The Kids are Alright live LP soon. The film of the same name is also brilliant.

Magnificent is a really good tune. I love the dance-y sort of disco vibes on the song and the atmosphere of it all.

Finally worked out Billy Le Bordelais by Joe Dassin. Why is he singing about a cat (great fear of water gives it away)?
