The chorus is a bit of a let down but the rest is fucking amazing. Noel really summed up the BHN era when he listed this song among the five greatest he's ever written. I also wish that Liam sang it. In all honesty, I consider almost every time Noel sang lead on a song during the 90's a crime against humanity. Liam's fuckin' voice during the 90's would've nailed this song. FUCK YOU NOEL WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS MAN'S GIFT FROM GOD AND LET HIM USE IT ON EVERY TRACK??? Because Noel is a pre Madonna silly twunt mate. Go and read the Tony mccarroll book and you'll get it... "Bigun: Noel one of those blouses would be great for our Kelly for college" haha hahaha haha haha Pre-Madonna? So Noel was a bit like Cyndi Lauper.

I don't get the edit, mimmihopps? You do know that I was quoting the quote from Fucking In The Bushes, right? I was trying to be clever. Sigh.

I actually wasn't taking the piss (for once), like.
I tagged @beherenowisbiblical in the first post bc I thought he, too, was a fellow lover of Magic Pie due to his dedication to Be Here Now. Alas, I was wrong.

I love it because it is simply ridiculous. Way too long, overproduced and overcompressed to the point where you can here distinct clicks in the track. Terrible lyrics and vocals as well.
So why do I love it? Well nothing sort of ballsy! Only Noel at the height of his fame could release a 7 minute track about a mystical pie, laden with guitar riffs and overdone solos.

^Be Here Now in a nutshell.
(Well, not quite, most of the songs are really good as well. But that's not the best thing about the album.)

Just listened to it again.
Oh my God, it's really bad. Just as I remembered.
Maybe if Liam was on vocals, it might save it slightly. But Noel's on poor form vocally. (Wtf is up with that btw? His voice is unbearable in this)
Not to mention the other things wrong with it!

For all the reasons people have stated above, I absolutely love Magic Pie. Can't remember if anyone's mentioned the drums, but they're especially awesome on this as well.
As with a lot of the Be Here Now stuff, I love a lot of the guitar work. I don't care what Noel says, I think he's a handy player when he want to be, and the excesses of coke (see 7:17 of the track) brought out a reckless abandon in him to just fucking go for it. And he did. Like a madman. On every single track. Every second him or Liam aren't singing something. (And sometimes even when they were)
Having said that, I still think that, along with Fade In-Out, it's not deserving of its run time. 8/10. Possibly 9/10 if you shed a minute off somewhere.
However, I do think The Fame is a bit pish. And the guitar solo in that one... Must be one of the worst I've ever heard. Just goes nowhere.

I like Magic Pie purely for the fact that it's on BHN. If the teletubbies theme tune was on BHN i'd still like it because it's BHN and BHN is a great album bar the odd dudd like MP. It's just not the best track on the album. That's gotta be Fade In-Out after re-watching GMEX 97 for me last night. (Then again my favourite track on BHN changes as much as the way the wind may blow...)

Way over the top, cocaine power, crazy guitar work - epitomizes everything about the band at that point in time. "This's for Ashcroft!"

I think it's pretty good. I think he may have got more credit for the song if he called it Magpie.

I think this tune could have done with a heavy rewrite. The verses are cool, the bridge is decent bit the chorus goes nowhere. If the structure was made tighter, the lyrics changed, the production not as heavy handed and the ridiculous ending taken out (I really don't get why people love that, it's excessive but not in a cool way like the DYKWIM intro or the IGB(M!!) refrain, just stupid and unnecessary), it could have made a really, really good b-side. I still don't think it's got the potential to be good enough to have made in on to an album that was supposed to end all worldly violence and suffering.

The vocals alone make this song dire.
It's unbearable to listen to.

Magic Pie is simply like no other. I actually sang it myself on my guitar a few times, doesn't help in salvaging the song from cringe-ness at all though, it just has to be that awfully loud and dreary, guitar-solo-laden, 7 minutes of utter indulgence to be so special in the first place, as the third track of that looong album, just the way it is supposed to be.
I absolutely adore it. I think it's what makes BHN THE Be Here Now.

I'm pretty critical of Be Here Now in general but Magic Pie is a real shining moment as far as I'm concerned. I've never got the whole thing about it being one of the weaker tracks of the era as it's more than easily on my A-list. I'd happily describe it as one of the best non-singles Noel ever wrote and in my opinion twice the song that many people would have liked to see replace it (Stay Young).
Fairly sure I posted a weird ass album cover I made in tribute to it somewhere on these boards. Maybe I'll dig it up.
