Since seeing Noel in Bournemouth at the end of April I haven't listened to Chasing Yesterday at all. Not even once.
Strange because I actually really enjoyed the gig. I need new material I think. I'm bored of Chasing Yesterday.

Why is The Mexican called The Mexican? Am I missing some kind of reference or what?

Why is The Mexican called The Mexican? Am I missing some kind of reference or what? I would assume that the mention of a "revolution" has something to do with the title, or that it's a reference to a Latin-influenced arrangement of the AA version. Either that or Noel simply chose the facetious title to mirror the goofy yet charming nature of the tune

I could be mistaken though.

I don't think it's that overrated on here tbh, since a big majority on here, seems to think it's actually "overrated". And for me, it's a better track than BOTMI. By casual fans or even non fans ( who call it best Oasis b-side), it's an other story, though...

Might be one of Noel's most overrated tunes ever. Maybe even his most overrated on here, imo. Nah... nothing compares to the hyperbole that surrounds Let's All Make Believe. You can understand where that comes from though, because it was only a b-side even though it was quite obviously better than a couple of the songs on Giants; and also just because it's a song that sounds like it's actually finished, when so much of what Noel was writing at that time really didn't. Noel's writing at that time, when it wasn't completely uninspired (Put Yer Money Where Your Mouth Is), could be quite sloppy and lazy (I Can See A Liar). So, that Let's All Make Believe comes along with good verses, good choruses, and a nice outro to finish it all off (along with a stellar Liam vocal at a time when his voice was starting to show some wear and tear and we were getting more and more Noel-sung tracks), makes it all the more miraculous.

BOTMI is really overrated. I don't know about LAMB. Sometimes I really love it but sometimes it is really boring. It's the last b-side that was written by Noel with Liam on vocals...

I think BOTMI and LAMB are two of the best 'Oasis' songs since the 90s. I'm not budging on that.
(but I'm glad there's variation in opinion. What good would a forum be if everyone loved and hated the same songs the same way?)
On an unrelated note...
As surprised as I am that Hey Now has never been played live (besides that Australian soundcheck in 06), it baffles me even more that Up in the Sky hasn't been done since 95. Being a DM song you think it would have made another appearance since then, at least acoustic. That's why I was so happy to hear the 98 soundcheck recording of it. I always feel a little sad when it seems like a song has been 'forgotten'.

Being a DM song you think it would have made another appearance since then, at least acoustic. That's why I was so happy to hear the 98 soundcheck recording of it. I always feel a little sad when it seems like a song has been 'forgotten'. Love that song. Overlooked cos' it's on DM between Live Forever and Columbia. It's not a masterpiece, there were better songs at that time but it's great little tune. I wish Noel could write more songs like that today (not particularly in the same vein, but the same level). CY might be a good record (it is imo, I really like it ) but if I am being honest, in 10 years what will I be still listening ? Up In The Sky or Lock All The Doors ? Shakermaker or Ballad of the Mighty I ? DM still amazes me everytime I listen to it. It's so sincere, raw, melodic. Melodic power is what Noel has lost in parts since 1998. He's still able to write awesome melodies (Gas Panic!, TIOBI, TDOYAM, WTSRTS, etc) but he's just not as consistent. Even the b-sides, the non-singles were absolutely memorable and amazing: Half The World Away, Cast No Shadow, Underneath The Sky, Fade Away, etc, still strikes me to these days. So it might be a controversial thought but I'm not desesperate to hear a experimental new record. I want Noel to come back as close as possible to his 90's melodical power (and I'm not even talking about the anthems but the songs I've cited above). Experimentation is just a great bonus for me. Songwriting comes first.

I hope he won't play Champagne Supernova on the final leg of the CY tour. Last tour he played Idler's Dream and Angel Child at the end...
