Intense clapping sessions during the gigs wasnt it soundchecked somewhere? or did I dream that? It was soundchecked in Birmingham in 2008. There is a rough recording of it, unfortunately it's not on YouTube but the Beatles covers from the soundcheck are. I'm sure if you request it in the Sound & Vision board someone will be able to help out. m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL86D98914A428D7BA

almost certain it was at least mentioned it was rehearsed like let there be love, cant remember, been a few songs mentioned over time like some might say on the DOYS tour but Liam couldnt manage it I heard somewhere. They dropped it in either 2000 or 2002. Liam couldn't hit the notes in the chorus anymore. Wasn't that the Jools performance? Can't find out as I can't listen to anything right now. Anyway, if he couldn't hit the notes back then he would definitely not have been able to hit them in 2008. they played it in the original key on jools holland 2000 and Liam was struggling abit on the chorus, they didnt play it again that tour maybe because of that so they lowered the key in 2002 but I did read somewhere that they tried it out for the 2008 tour and Liam simply couldnt manage it so it wasnt taken any further, Noel possibly wanted to bring it back like slide away.

Think you maybe getting Gas Panic confused with another song. Jools was one of the first performances of the track in February 2000 and they played it at nearly every gig on the Giants tour, the 2001 South American dates, the Brotherly Love and 10 Years of Noise & Confusion tours as well as a handful of gigs in 2002 on the Heathen Chemistry tour. Gas Panic was soundchecked in 2009 with the full band with Noel on vocals along with The Turning (Alt Version), Live Forever, Half the World Away and My Big Mouth. Noel hasn't commented on why they never played it again after 2002 but I'd put money on him not wanting to drag the set list out when the Don't Believe the Truth tour already had extended 7 minute or so versions of Rock 'n' Roll Star and My Generation included. Plus the lack of set list variation where the only played 6 or 7 songs from the then current album and the rest being a greatest hits set... Even though Gas Panic was a monster live and one of Noel's best songs.

Thought it was Gas Panic as that was soundchecked for definite!

Dear Diary
Today I was thinking about the influence of Suede on Oasis, in terms of press attention and production. I think Bernard Butler's guitar sound on the first record influenced some of the sounds Noel went for on MG, and I wonder if songs like The Masterplan would have sounded quite the same if Suede hadn't been producing stuff like The Wild Ones. Not saying they sound that similar, but I think there was an influence. I've never really considered either group Brit-pop, but if they were then Brit-pop was a glam-rock revival. Except they weren't and it wasn't.
Yours sincerely

Yeah that's another good shout. Infact if I didn't know any better I'd have actually guessed it was from the SOTSOG era. For some reason the gap between Be Here Now & SOTSOG seems like a gulf, but it really isn't when you think about it. I still can't quite get my head around how short of a time span it was between between writing 'the classics' and the stuff from SOTSOG era though. Teotihuacan is another more obvious track that bridges classic Oasis with oasis mark 2. In fact I'd say that it actually is the definitive arrival of the new glum era Teotihuacan is awesome. It's unlike anything Noel wrote before it, and unlike anything he's wrote since. The dark vibes fit The X-Files well and it highlights a cool side of him that we never see much of.

They played Some Might Say at Jools Holland in 2000 like they did in the 90's without a capo. On the Heathen Chemistry tour they played it with the capo on the 4th fret. That is a lot easier to sing.

As much as brickwall productions with heavy compression and no dynamics whatsover is bad for music, I can't lie Oasis's tunes wouldn't be the same without it. Listen Up is ridiculously loud but it makes it so massive. Unfortunately Mr. Sardy tried this but failed ultimately. You have to understand the sound of the band, not just mimic their loudness into your own idea of how the production should be.

Let's face it, Be Here Now is not a good album. But we fucking love it because we are still madferit That kind of talk can lead to the salem BHN heresy judges mystoryisgory and @beherenowisbiblical wanting a word... @victoria Get the fuck out man!! BHN is the sound of a band at the top of their game who is soon going to dive headfirst into a pile of SOTSOG! Get yer prozac out it's time for GAS PANIC!!

SLIDE AWAY, original 1994 version mastered for high volume with heavy compression, plopped into Audacity and made louder. Blasting through my Logitech Z130 speakers as I type.

How can you not like Hey Now? Sure it's a bit long but if you can stomach Be Here Now than what's wrong with the 5:41 runtime? One of Noel's best lyrical contributions.
