Neither band is seen as cool. Most people consider them to be a bit cheesy or a meme, apart from their own fans. Is this true? Maybe it was true in the noughties, but since 2016-ish (maybe since the Supersonic doc) things have changed - and a lot. There's plenty of younger music fans who think that Oasis are cool. And not only because of the music, but also because of that classic mid '90s aesthetic.

Oasis are probably the British version of Nickelback. They both have a couple of big hits worldwide, but the rest of their catalogue isn't particularly mainstream hits across the world, yet they maintained a level of success where they can fill out big venues all over. Neither band is seen as cool. Most people consider them to be a bit cheesy or a meme, apart from their own fans. The bands have brothers You'll likely get a bit of stick for this and eventhough I disagree I do know what you're getting at. I'd say they're more of the English Britpop version of America's pop-punk Green Day. Both have huge singles and a singer with a love it or hate it voice. A dedicated fanbase and a lot of people who despise the band and see them as desperately uncool. Both filled out massive venues and eventhough both had really good non-single tracks most in the crowd are just there for the hits. I'm not a particularly big Green Day fan, I loved them when I was a young teenager but I stopped listening about a decade ago and while I don't think they're similar musically, I do think they are kinda equivalents in a lot of ways in terms of success, appeal and career trajectory. Some similar chord progressions and melodic sensibilities too even if the execution is totally different Musically I don't think there is an American equivalent because the Oasis sound is so quintessentially British and is an amalgamation of all their 60's British pop-rock influences.

Yeah, I'm not really a huge fan but the Green Day comparison is much more fitting imho.

Just thinking about those gold and silver box sets from Def Maybe and MG.... I have them and they make a nice addition to my collection. I decided to buy them despite having all of their cd singles.

A 2006 CD with 13 acoustic songs. "4 ANYONE", maybe Oasis demo? I have one of those discs now. An instrumental soundcheck / live session from 2005 direct from the soundboard 1. Turn Up The Sun 2. Mucky Fingers 3. Lord Don't Slow Me Down 4. Ain't Got Nothin' 5. Love Like A Bomb 6. A Bell Will Ring 7. The Meaning Of Soul 8. Eyeball Tickler 9. Keep The Dream Alive

A bit more info about this Thanks for that. I recommend watching the video but here’s a quick summary of some of the stuff I found interesting. Some of it’s new some of it isn’t: - Just for a bit of context all of these items featured in the pictures (disks, tapes, pieces of paper etc.) have all come from a recently opened lockup. I believe the haul in the pictures is what Kyle has purchased and subsequently photographed. In it he claims to have purchased most of if not all the audio stuff. So ‘Stop the Clocks’, ‘Gem’s Demos’, ’13 Acoustic Tunes (26/10/06)’, demos of Beady Eye songs with Liam singing them, etc. - The locker contained lots of handwritten lyrics written by Noel, Gem, Andy… Various songs from various eras. In there was a lyric sheet to an unheard song but Kyle’s been asked not to the say the name of it. He didn’t specify if he bought it or someone else did (I’m guessing the latter). - Not from the locker but Kyle’s got 2 (I think unheard) songs from the GMEX soundcheck and 3 unheard acoustic songs, sung by Noel, which are studio recordings from the Be Here Now era and are mixed by Owen Morris. Apparently even Bonehead hadn’t heard 2 of them. 1 of the songs contains the same bridge melody as ‘Go Let It Out’. He’s trying to get back into Noel’s possession in the hope that by doing so they may be officially released at some point in the future. He also explains why he won’t just put them online himself.

This isn't meant to be a stupid question but if he were to put the unheard songs online, would he be likely to get into trouble with Ignition? Plenty of demos have been leaked before without any issues but then again they've almost all been demos of already released material, there's quite a lot of new stuff in this collection so would it land him in hot water with Noel's people? Sidenote: if he's saying that he'd rather give them back to Ignition for them to put out on a reissue then his expectations of that useless company are WAY too high

Noel, by his own admission, already has closets full of CD-Rs that will never see the light of day. Sending them back is just throwing them onto the forbidden pile. Double plus forbidden, as they're BHN-era.

If you gave it back to Ignition they'd probably lose it. Wasn't there an article a few years back saying what a state the Oasis catalogue was in? I think traders/fans need to realise that if we want a proper anthology project it's on us. Whether that be through donations or connections. Otherwise we're all going to be old and grey buying the 60th anniversary edition of Definitely Maybe (lasagna picture vinyl) that has stuff like Columbia (Door closing in the background Take)

Double plus forbidden, as they're BHN-era. I understand the sentiment. It's frustratingly slow and it doesn't feel like it goes far enough but stuff does get released. TBF 'Be Here Now' era is actually one of the best eras for previously unreleased stuff. The Mustique demos (long considered a holy grail by fans), 'If We Shadows', an untitled song, an unknown instrumental and some additional demos and soundchecks were all released back in 2016.

We won't hear any of that anytime soon.
From time to time some generous souls come out of the blue and give us unreleased stuff - but for most of the time it's just individuals talking about stuff they're gonna keep for themselves. They may have their valid reasons for doing that but it's still frustrating.
