now that some time has passed and both albums are getting to be further back in the rear view mirror a bit, which do you like better?
my take: dgss has some great tunes (namely the roller, the morning son, four letter word, wigwam) and some clunkers as well... while BE is probably more consistent and flows better.
BUT although the lows on BE aren't as low as dgss, the highs on BE aren't as high as they are on dgss (if that makes any sense). and although i like BE as a whole, there is some petty bitterness from liam that rears it's ugly head on a couple of the tracks and leaves a sour aftertaste for me.

B.E . Shame that Evil Eye and The World's Not Set In Stone weren't included on the album, though. Both of them are certainly Beady Eye finest' tunes.

If you trimmed a bit of the bad stuff in the debut and have a post 60's vision in the production side DGSS would be better. BE just needed a hit single, Flick was nice but not having a chorus hurt and Second Bite is a nice groove.

BE.
It was only a couple of songs away from being something really good (Off at the Next Exit and Back After the Break), which is an attribute DGSS can't possess. The album was quite a step forward, which is why it's a shame that Beady Eye split up.

BE without a doubt, especially if all the bonus tracks had been included.

I went for dgss. It was a more exciting time. BE was a disasterous time and it isnt a very happy record to look back on.

I definitely prefer DGSS.
It needed trimming but it has more good songs compared to BE in my opinion. BE starts great but then never gets close again to the quality of FOTF until Start Anew. There are plenty of songs on DGSS that would have easily made it onto oasis albums.
Four Letter Word* Millionaire* The Roller* Beatles and Stones Bring the Light* For Anyone Kill for a Dream Wigwam* The Beat Goes On The Morning Son*
*Would easily make it onto any 21st century Oasis album.

I mean... they had 'The Roller' for years and it never made an appearance. 'Four Letter Word' is clearly about the split, so I don't see how it could have ever been written during the life of Oasis. 'Bring The Light' doesn't really fit on DGSS, it's a jarring contrast to anything Oasis ever did. It would have been a b-side at best. 'Millionaire' has always sounded like a b-side to me. 'Wigwam' and 'The Morning Son' are the only two that maybe could have been molded to fit an Oasis record.

Four Letter Word was around during the DOYS sessions? The music probably, the lyrics must of come after, about the split.

DGSS overstays its welcome.
BE is incomplete.
Both are mediocre dross. I almost never listen to either.

Different Gear, Still Speeding for me, BE has some solid songs, but DGSS has more memorable songs to me.

BE wins it, but it was just a step in the right direction rather than the huge leap forward that was required after the very mediocre first album.
It's surprising how many people on here defend tracks like 'The Roller' and 'Bring The Light'. In my opinion, neither of them surpasses a 4/10 and I seriously hope Liam doesn't play them live.
There's some good moments on both albums for sure but when it comes down to it, they're too few and far between. 'Flick Of The Finger' is a very strong opener but the album never really impresses from there onwards. There's tracks like 'Second Bite Of The Apple', 'Evil Eye' and 'Soul Love' that have potential but they just never quite go anywhere.
The first album just sounds like a band on autopilot to me. Too many generic and predictable tracks with nothing really standing out other than the odd half-decent melody. Take 'The Beat Goes On' tot example, it starts off very strong but just never really develops into anything.

I've listened to the DYKWIM ReThink & MBM (Knebworth) more times in the past month than either of these albums over the past 5 years.
