Listening to Joe Dassin covering some English standards in French gave me this idea, even though some have different lyrics (Crackling Rosie's translation for example is about trains). Your favourite translations from songs that were originally English? Extra points if it is both lyrics and not just backing tracks.

It's not exactly my kind of music ("Austropop" - Austrian Pop), but I somehow like that one, Ostbahn Kurti & Die Chefpartie - Feuer. The lyrics are similar to Springsteen's "Fire" and "Feuer", spoken in a broad dialect, actually sounds like "fire", the way he sings it. Springsteen fans better stay away!!!
There is another one, "I hea di klopfn", after "I hear you knocking" from Pearl King. Maybe there are that more, but I just know those two.

I remember hearing The Osmonds' Crazy Horses when I was young and had just learned a few words English and thinking "huh, a song about horses..and they're crazy?!"

I don't know. But in the 60's and 70's in France ("les années yéyé" if you want to find something about this time), there were a lot of english/americans songs who were covered in French by these guys

Here's Françoise Hardy's French cover of Nirvana (UK)'s song Tiny Goddess. Its descending chords and chugging string arrangement create a familiar sound. According to Wikipedia it's one of many pop songs whose chords can be traced back to Pachelbel's Canon in D.
Nirvana's original version isn't on YT, but Hardy also recorded an English cover version.

Bumping this because I'm listening to an Apocalyptica/Till Lindemann German cover of Heroes and wondered if Bowie ever did a German version himself?
