After what occurred at the Brit Awards in '96, does anyone know anything about what fully happened with Michael Hutchence and the Gallagher Brothers and the history between them? I heard there was some beef both before as well as after that infamous comment by Noel. Also, did Bonehead, Guigs, and White agree with Noel's comment? Alas, has anyone got a video of that comment? Thanks.

I heard there was some beef both before as well as after that infamous comment by Noel. Also, did Bonehead, Guigs, and White agree with Noel's comment? Alas, has anyone got a video of that comment? Thanks. IIRC The history developed between Liam and Michael specifically over Paula Yates, who had a bit of a history of falling for rock stars. She had been infrequently seeing Hutchence from 1985 until she left Geldof for him in 1995, but in 1994 after Oasis appeared on The Word she apparently developed a crush on Liam NME 1994 with Liam claiming later on to Paul Mathur that she also turned up at gigs and stuck a poster of Liam up on the wall behind her on the bed set of her C4 programme The Big Breakfast. To be fair that was replaced fairly quickly as with all backgrounds on that show at the time, so it probably wasn't serious for Paula. I think Hutchence had mostly let this pass until backstage at that particular Brits night there was a bit of a scuffle involving a fire extinguisher being thrown, some disparaging remarks made by Liam to Michael about Paula Yates who in turned allegedly threatened Liam. The incident is covered by Paolo Hewitt who also said Guigsy was still fuming about it a month later in Dublin after The Point gigs, declining to go to a party hosted by Bono initially as he thought he would end up punching out Hutchence who was also there. I haven't seen any interviews and can't recall at the time Bonehead or Whitey having anything to say on the matter. In the event, it was all words with no physical violence, although the full 7 min speech of a near twenty year old clip has been pulled from YouTube by the BPI on copyright grounds, despite them probably never commercially using it again. I think Noel was partly having a pop at Hutchence who had made comments at the time along the lines of his new record would blow Oasis away, and also in part siding with Liam. Also the presence of cocaine during this period should not be discounted as it can definitely bring out more aggression and ego in users than they normally display. The incident was one of many in that era, but I think given Hutchence's death in 1997 followed by Yates a few years later the band have avoided mentioning it when bringing up the spates of that era, which is understandable really.

Paula Yates used to be a playmate and Bob Geldof's girlfriend. I liked Inxs (well, some of their songs actually).
Shame both him and Yates took their life. RIP.

It was actually triggered by the Hutchence comment about the new INXS album blowing Oasis out of the water and, more importantly, a picture that was published of Patsy Kensit (Liam's then wife) putting her hand down Hutchence's trousers.

Seriously ? If that picture is not a fake. It's easy to see why she was a c list actress at best.

And it's a real shame that the curse seems to have taken the next generation as well, with one of her daughters following her down that tragic road.

"I'm better than Oasis" U wot, m8? Supposed to have been written after Hutchence went out on the lash with Bono- wonder if Noel had anything to say about that on those 1997 supporting dates in the USA? Sad though that within a year of it's release Hutchence was dead, then in 2000 Liam and Patsy divorcing after their 1997 marriage, and in the same year Paula Yates being found dead- Doesn't seem like any of the parties in that particular story came out well in that period.

Think Katie Price with pretensions of being an actress and singer- at least Ms Price has never denied she was famous for her other halves and made no bones about she was cashing in on it.

He always reminds me of that line from Peep Show: "You do realise I'm bored, Mark? I'm dangerously bored. Today I considered doing that thing that that MP and Michael Hutchence did. You know..."
