Watching the Sydney-Adelaide game last week (may have been Wellington, not sure) and one Sydney player decided almost to stud the face of his opponent with his boot. Is that a red card offence?

Yes it is. This would either fall into the category of serious foul play or violent conduct, both of which are conditions for a red card to be issued.

Was the boot on his foot or did he take it off?

To 'almost to stud the face' may almost be a red card, without seeing it, it is impossible to say.

Was the boot on his foot or did he take it off? Definitely on his foot, mind you it was definitely late:

It is a red card then, unless the referee was his cousin. Was the ref his cousin?
Edit: obviously not as he gave him a straight red

Edit: obviously not as he gave him a straight red It is this that makes the thread pointless, an obvious red card that was given ffs.

Studs up on any part of the body is usually a red card offence no? Depends on the level of danger and/or intent. Malicious intent, regardless of contact, is a straight red. Dangerous play, if accidental, is more often a yellow but if it's incredibly dangerous it can be a red, too.
