I really like them both, but Flick of the Finger. The Hindu Times deserves a better chorus.

hindu times is good but I prefer the demo lyrics, the album ones are abit too forced imo, like they changed it to make more classic oasis instead of just going with it.

^ Just wanted to say that about the chorus as well.
I like Flick Of The Finger but my God, is that the most overrated thing on this forum ever or what!
So Hindu Times it is.

The demo quite easily crushes anything Beady Eye could ever have been capable of, but I'd go Flick of the Finger for studio versions. It has much more energy and swagger, which is the point of both.

Flick of the Finger isn't even a complete song. Sounds like a random studio session jam that they decided to keep for whatever reason.

For me I lean Flick of The Finger. Awesome vibes going on throughout the song. Strong brass section. I wish this was the first thing we ever heard from Beady Eye. The Hindu Times had more interesting elements left on the demos. Some of those lyrics and the cool drum beats should have remained. Final version is just ok.

Flick of the Finger doesn't need a chorus. It's deliberately structured that way and flows very nicely because of it, and it's a great opener. A real scene setter. Hindu Times? Again, trying to recreate past glories and falling well short. The demo is also way better.
It's no contest for me personally - Flick of the Finger does have a real swagger to it, and I like the lyrics to it. The brass is full on and Liam's voice is much much better. It was something new and fresh from them too, and instrumentally impressive, unlike the dull meat and potatoes plod of Hindu Times (sums up latter Oasis well..).
As folk know, I'm not the biggest Beady Eye fan but that song felt completely natural for Liam and wasn't derivative. It's a shame they reverted to type by being derivative for most of the time but that song proved they had a future if they took the necessary time out.

Ooh, good poll!.....SAY WHAT YOU BELIEVE:
Flick Of The Finger -- One of the best things Beady Eye did - normally that's a backhanded compliment, but not here. FOTF is pulsating, menacing, lyrically intriguing, I dig the atypical structure sans chorus, and the audio snippet is alright - Great way to open the album.
Love these lyrics, too, mind:
"I took a needle, sewn myself right back at the seams. I saw my universal gleam." "But the future gets written today."
The Hindu Times -- It's the generic Oasis single that appears on every album (RWI, GLIO, Lyla, TSOTL....). Probably the worst from that selection, actually - vocals are a bit sloppy. One of the highlights on HC, and again - it's just stereotypical Oasis.
Verdict -- It's a tough call, but I'm going to be impulsive and say FOTF - it's different, and deserves all the praise it gets. HOWEVER, THT Demo is a thousand times better, and that would be my choice. But alas, the studio version lacks that quality so Flick of the Finger it is.

The Hindu Times (Demo) > Flick of the Finger > The Hindu Times (album version) Just read this post - and I said the exact same thing, completely agree!

One of them is a big production first single from one of the biggest bands in the world that went number one.
The other is an old half completed mess of a demo which captured the attention of a member of tv on the radio who touched it up.
Its not even close, Flick Of The Finger has so much more soul. The Hindu Times has to be the most generic oasis song. Its an autopilot song. FOTF is atleast a proper crack at making something a little different. Terry Tibbs at the end has more than wore off after 2 years.

The Hindu Times is fucking dreadful. How Noel went from writing D'You Know What I Mean? in 1996/7, to that shower of shit only five years later, is un-bloody-believeable. From the sheer gall of simply reusing your own chords and melody, and covering it up with loads of morse code and backwards vocals and guitar (not forgetting the NWA sample), to just ripping off the ruddy Stereophonics! What on earth happened?
Oh, and the demo's crap an' all! "The ghost that is your soul, it leaves me cold, babe"? Bah!
Merry fucking Christmas!

The ghost that is your soul, it leaves me cold is one of Noel's best latter-day Oasis lyrics IMO, and The Hindu Times (Demo) might be my favourite post-2000 Oasis song. A lost classic for me, would have sounded IMMENSE with heavier production and Liam's snarling vocals. The anger for me comes from what it actually became. An electronic-sounding drum loop, shoegaze-sounding guitars, pessimistic lyrics and a genuine wall of sound on a latter day Oasis track? Best change it to a generic, dad-rock, undercooked, uplift-by-numbers, piece of mush; that'll sell better... The reaction to Be Here Now really did a number on Noel.

Ooh, good poll!..... SAY WHAT YOU BELIEVE:You keep scaring me as well. But as carlober said, yeah, pretty much in that order. The Hindu Times could've been massive with that demo. Oasis going fully experimental.

Flick Of The Finger is the better of the two only great Beady Eye songs (the other being Bring The Light), but it bothers me more than the Hindu Times, because of how dreadful BE is after that one glorious song.
Granted, HC is not much better but at least Hindu Times has a good tune and Liam's Vocals are better.
