I'm always on the hunt for new music, so here's another way to discover more - especially if responses have the same artists listed.
Active rules out Oasis, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, etc.
Basically, your favorite artist who is still active and making records. List as many as relevant for you.
Taylor Swift, hands down for me. Can't be arsed to think of others at the moment.

Every time someone asks me a question like that, it's as if all of a sudden I forget what music I listen to.

Even though the best records for me at the moment are ones made by more recent acts like Arcade Fire or Twilight Sad for example, there is extra intrigue as to how age old top acts continue their story and unbelievable standards they have set for themselves.
So naturally acts like Noel, Bowie, Springsteen, U2, Radiohead, and yes, Coldplay intrigue me. Even if it is shit (like with the latest Coldplay album) it keeps me thinking about WHAT they were thinking when considering previous records. Though Bowie still throws extreme curve balls for me - I mean, I'm still listening to this new song thinking nothing on earth sounds like this.
The term 'original' is so overused in many aspects concerning music (mostly all shite hipster acts) - even U2 and Radiohead at their peak are an amalgamation of left field influences as opposed to innovators - but it genuinely applies to Bowie.

In no particular order.... Taylor Swift The Hold Steady Arctic Monkeys Noel Gallagher Los Campesinos KasabianThey have literally become a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy. My interest in them has diminished for them by leaps and bounds over the last 3-4 years. It might be their unchecked ego.

'Active' means I rule out most of my favourites...
Noel and Liam, Richard Ashcroft, Paul Weller, Neil Young, Buzzcocks, Travis, and Morrissey if he ever puts another record out.

Travis have a new single out now and a new album coming in the spring. I feel like Neil Young has released 4-5 albums in the last 5 years. Very active.

I just realized after I posted that that my favourites still continue on as solo artists - couldn't be bothered to edit the post! Had no Idea about Travis - will have to check that out, thanks!

I love Kasabian and I don't give a thing about their "egos", I love the music. And, no, I am not a Thatcherite, I am not even British.
