I really need to listen to more new music...my favourites: The Obvious One In Colour - Jamie XX Elaenia - Floating Points The AFX stuff was great too, but I never judge Richard by albums. If anyone with a similar taste thinks I'd like something, I'm up for suggestions

I'm not ready to make my list for top albums in 2015 but I will post my favorite songs of the past calendar year. Ready. Steady. Go! Tame Impala - Let It Happen Noel Gallagher - RivermanEL VY - Return To The Moon Blur - Ong Ong Beck - DreamsJamie xx - Loud Places (featuring Romy) Sufjan Stevens - All of Me Wants All of You Wilco - You Satellite Kurt Vile - Pretty Pimpin Deerhunter - Breaker Will Butler - Anna Grimes - Flesh Without Blood The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face* Let It Happen is my song of the year. Ooh yes. I think The Weeknd's Can't Feel My Face is a pop guilty pleasure of mine, along with Tay-Tay's Style. The latter song has an atmosphere to it that is smooth flowing and sweet with her voice, while the former is a good piece of the recent disco/dance rock revival. Add in Ballad of the Mighty I and Adventure of a Lifetime, and you've got some solid tunes from 2015 that fall under that genre.

Coldplay's new one, definitely.
(only joking)
Lots of exciting new albums for me in 2015
Noel - Chasing Yesterday (BOTMI, The Right Stuff, You know We Can't Go Back) Blur - The Magic Whip (Lonesome Street, Ice Cream Man, Mirrorball) Neil Young - The Monsanto Years (People Want to Hear About Love, Wolfmoon, title track) Libertines - Anthems for Doomed Youth (Heart of the Matter, Gunga Din, You're My Waterloo) Paul Weller - Saturn's Pattern (White Sky, These City Streets, In the Car)
Not so much a "best albums of the year" as I don't listen to everything, but these are the ones this year that I've sought out and enjoyed. Got Ryan Adams' 1989 too but not listened to it yet.

I've been singing it a lot for the past months.

Kendrick Lamar: To Pimp a Butterfly. Clearly a seminal album not just for any black listener, but for the examination of race in general. When I listened to this album it was like a revelation, a baptism. Just an amazing effort that I'll probably give to whatever kids I have. He demonstrates an amazing ability to weave not only key demarcations in race, but in genre too. Favorite song: "I" D'Angelo and the Vanguard: Black Messiah. Another black-centric album. One of those albums where half way through I didn't know what I was listening to, and that didn't bother me whatsoever. Not as subversive as Lamar's effort, but certainly worth the listen. Favorite Song: Really Love Blur: Magic Whip. Perfect comeback album for Blur. Not without some imperfections, but while I was listening to this album it was the first time in a long time I wished Oasis were back together. Favorite song: Ong Ong/My Terracotta Heart Tame Impala: Currents. This album is nowhere near the level of Lonerism, still very solid, though some of the songs really do sound like they could be more rather than standard Tame Impala noodling. However, I think the effort and trip they take the listener on is once again worth it. Favorite Song: Let it Happen Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds: Chasing Yesterday. Great sophomore album by Noel. Like Tame Impala, but obviously in a different sense, I felt Noel could have done more with songs like Girl with X-Ray Eyes, Lock all the Doors, or You Know We Can't Go Back. The best moments are when Noel doesn't sound like typical Noel. Favorite song: Ballad of the Mighty I Pops Staples: Don't Lose This. I'm a big Staples Singers fan, and when I heard about this album the only thing I was hoping for was that it wouldn't be the same let's bring these half assed songs back from a dead artist deal like Kurt Cobain. This album did not disappoint. It literally sounds like Pops Staples got up yesterday, put a mic in front of him and recorded it. Favorite Song: Somebody Was Watching Courtney Barnett: Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit. Sometimes Barnett favors the lyrics over the actual quality of the song, but for the most part she's on point. This year it was great to see lyrics actually receive a bit of a resurgence, especially when thinking of the lyrical quality of Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly. Favorite Song: Pedestrian at Best Tobias Jesso Jr: Goon. Been waiting a long time for smaltzy piano based music that's not Adele, and more Randy Newman. Thank you Tobias Jesso for doing so. Much of this is easy going, and you really feel like Jesso Jr can just sit at any piano and write these songs in five minutes, they're ingrain in who he is. Great to see a resurgence in the singer/songwriter this year too. Favorite Song: Hollywood Archy Marshall: A New Place 2 Drown. Been waiting for a sort of Beastie-Boys-ish revival for sometime. First time I've ever heard of Archy Marshall, but was extremely impressed, especially his lyrical delivery. Favorite song: Arise Dear Brother Panda Bear: Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper. Award for best album title ever? Also, pretty good music Once again, first I've heard of Panda Bear, but this entire effort certainly made me want to take a listen to the rest of his stuff. Favorite Song: Boys Latin Waxahatchee: Ivy Tripp. The last album I had a chance to listen to this year, and it was well worth it. The whole year I'd been missing some folk, and this was the first album I've listened to by Waxahatchee. She has a great delivery on a lot of her songs, and is certainly unique in that regard. Once again, great to see so much good singer/songwriter material being released. Favorite song: Under a Rock

Listened to a lot of the stuff suggested, and the eight I liked are ranked thusly:
1. In Colour - Jamie XX (Gosh / Stranger in a Room) 2. Chasing Yesterday - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds (Ballad of the Mighty I / The Right Stuff) 3. Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit - Courtney Barnett (Depreston / Evelator Operator) 4. Anthems For Doomed Youth - The Libertines (Gunga Din / Fame and Fortune) 5. Elaenia - Floating Points (For Marmish / Peroration Six) 6. The Magic Whip - Blur (Lonesome Street / Ong Ong) 7. Valnicura - Bjork (History of Touches / Black Lake) 8. To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar (The Blacker the Berry / For Free?)
Love the first two, Courtney Barnett's is great too and the rest are just good/decent to me. Not a great year (I hope).

Love them. They're not awful to look at either. The Courtney Barnett album and the Tobias Jesso Jr. albums can also be added at my list. The funny thing was that the poster said he was looking for schmalzy piano thing that's not Adele. Well, this guy has written some of the songs on her new album! He reminds me of Harry Nilsson and a bit of Lennon in places.

They're the most un Adele songs on the album.
